Default Looking for a c2 convertible title for my c2 race car

Hi, I’m looking for a title for my c2 convertible race car. I’ve owned and raced the car in the uk for over a decade but never had a title for the car. I now want to use it on the road and need one. Does anyone have one or can point me in the right direction?

cheers.

This is illegal. Probably shouldn't be posting this request on a public forum.

I'm editing my post. If you have a vin tag, then you just need to go through the procedure to get a title. I was interpreting your request as trying to "acquire a VIN with title"

Hardly illegal if used for genuine purposes

Does the car have a VIN tag on the support under the glove box? If so, probably a better choice is to seek new registration and title on the basis of the VIN. But - no idea what the laws and rules for such registration are in the UK. Seeking a title - any title - that wouldn't match the VIN on the body and frame is asking for legal trouble.

Thanks for the reply. It’s no problem in the il to obtain a title. The car has a monster of a roll cage fitted and this is tied in to the crossmember and as such, the vin number is gone.

I dod did explore this first.

I do do have the option of registering it as a kit car but is so much easier to obtain a title from a car that has been scrapped or sold for parts etc.

He is asking "if anyone has one?". Has one what?? A title with a VIN? THE title that matches his car? Sounds fishy to me.

That's not strictly "kosher" there o'l boy - by acquiring a Title to a car that has been scrapped you're essentially "rebirthing" which is illegal - the best (legal) way is to have an automotive engineer certify the car is a Factory Build, … I'm also assuming you want to drive this on UK roads … so you'll need an Automotive Engineers Report anyway to pass the MoT.

Only if the car passes the MoT will the vehicle be eligible for registration, then you have the next hurdle of issuance of Number Plates specific to the period of the car - personally I think you're pushing ***** up hill with a point stick - it might be best to contact the Roads Authority to enquire what is required to have the car road registered - if you try to take a short cut, you'll end up a dead end road - Cheers GV

Kind of like asking for a helper to drive a car and wait for him, while he runs in the bank for a quick withdrawal (and he has no account there).
The money would be used to pay his rent, so it's all for a genuine purpose. All with good intentions. What's the problem?

A friend of mine bought a $100,000 car and later found out it had been junked and rebirthed. Title was clean in 3 previous states but not Florida. It called fraud.

Default Title

In the US you can go to the Dept of motor vehicles, which can issue you a VIN number and title. It is illegal for you to purchase VIN/title from another car and attach it to yours.

The Vin is stamped on the frame rail, top of the frame drivers side forward of the rear tire. Might need to lift the body to find it. Your roll cage may be welded over it.

I think I see both sides of this discussion, but I have a hypothetical question. If a person has two of the same car and takes the best parts of both to make one really good car and one worn out one, who decides where to draw the line at which parts are swapped out (e.g., motor, frame, bird cage, part of the bird cage, etc.)?

OP, if there is some way to properly generate a legal title in your state, likely as a “handbuilt” vehicle, then please contact your state for specific details and procedure. One of your posts suggested “IL” which would involve the Secretary of State Police. If so, good luck with that.

The discussion on finding a title to somehow attach to your vehicle is way too close to fraud, even in hypothetical situations, for advertisement in this forum. We do not allow sales or ads for VIN or Trim tags, and I’m going to extend that to titles in this instance.
