The screw in the holder for your ignition coil should not be painted black...should be zinc. See Rick's pic in post #32. Are we having fun yet?

thanks! Believe it or not, yes this is fun. Once I get the full list together, I’m sure going to have questions on some of the fixes!

keep it coming!

Yes, this is my understanding as well. What it means is that the intake manifold bolt heads, and the portion of the cylinder heads between the valve covers and the intake manifold, should be covered with silver paint.

there is a guy who is reproducing these. but since this a vital piece of the engine performance and has to work as designed I have no clue if the repros work like they should. for a car that is driven I would be more concerned on performance then looks as original

I spent time last night reading up on it and came to the exact same conclusion.

I have a great list of other things to work on now. I still have several questions on some of the feedback and will do more searching and reading. Once I finish my research, if I have specific questions I’ll start new threads for each topic to keep it simple.

I sincerly appreciate all the feedback and look forward to more help if I need it.

Don Baker from Chicago reproduces the correct "236" can. According to trusted sources, they are EXACT in all respects. The FI guys buy them.

Just a note about the silver paint that has been mentioned for the area between the intake manifold and cyl head. It wasn't actually just silver paint. It's correct name and color is Dull Aluminum. It looks a lot different than silver. The color will match the intake and valve covers. I think Krylon makes this.

Thanks. I was reading up on this last night. Found a thread on “the other forum” that suggested Seymour alumni blast. Pictures looked good. Need to think about this one.

I always question mechanical parts that require to work and yet are only made to look 100% correct. as most who want the looks don't drive there cars.

Ed,
Just a suggestion: I would brush the paint on, not spray it.

Yea, definitely VERY detailed and not for everyone. I’ve always been interested in “original” cars. Having the NCRS guide helps me get it as close to original as possible along with help from folks on this forum. There’s certainly nothing wrong with doing it any other way.
