Another what is it worth thread
OK, the widow is "considering" the sale of another project Corvette. This one is a 1962 body only. No chassis, and the body is complete from the firewall back.
The deal will include a pair of 62 doors, 62 seats, a complete instrument cluster, a trunk lid, and a steering column with a valid 1962 VIN tag. This is the column that was originally in this car.
The deal does NOT include the hardtop. It may also include a hood if there is one in the parts stash.
OK, same arrangement as before, she is looking for a ballpark figure that is not a steal, and not top dollar.
What is a fair value for this as it sits, and as described above.

Oh the humanity! I keep staring at the ‘64 with the 65/66 BB hood, what a shame!
Is there a valid title or valid proof of ownership for the ‘62? If so, and I hate to phrase it this way, selling it is practically selling a title given the condition. $3-5k is probably about right.

Hello Ed,
Boy....it looks like you're going to have your hands full for quite some time. Very commendable that you're able to help this gal out.
I honestly really wouldn't have any idea what this could be worth. Like hedgehead has already said; the top is probably worth more than the car, but you have already stated that the top is not included.
I can't imagine anyone buying this with an attempt to revive it, but I'm sure somebody out there could have aspirations of building this.
I would remove the top, lay down the doors, steering column, and hood alongside the car. Take some pictures and place it on ebay. Unfortunately, if I remember correctly, she doesn't want to auction items.
Take the value of the doors, hood, steering column, windshield trim and posts, plus a bit more.....maybe $2,500.00?

Ask 5K or make offer. Windshield, hood, doors, seats, trunk lid, decklid, 2/3 of body, and a clear title w/VIN tag is a start for someone. Think about it, look what folks pay for just a set of 2x4's or FI unit.

Amazing the posts including this one that contribute nothing to answering Ed's legitimate question.

No hardtop then I would say around 2.5-5k. I sold a body in the same shape with less parts about 10 years ago for 2000.00. Then again mine sold without a vin so... Maybe more.
Heck the windshield and gauges are worth about one thousand. Add more for the moldings, heater, console, pedal assembly, steering column, deck lid and deck lid trim. Wiper transmissions are there too. Price out all of that stuff then it comes down to what the body is worth with the vin if it has the vin for sure.

So the hardtop is not included-----I take it the widow needs the hardtop for the car she will be using? As for the rest of the shell, I would bet 2-3k for parts. The dash/windshield are worth something. Many here would rebuild this car, but I wouldn't. Time is too precious these days. And so is money.

Yes, but many would pay simply for a valid vin and title.

The person interested in the car does not want a chassis, just the body with the VIN tag. He runs a local restoration shop and he wants to resto-mod this. This same guy bought a 58 from the widow many years ago that was in about the same condition as this 62. He turned it into a $175K resto-mod for a customer about 5 years ago.
The car has a steering column with a valid VIN tag and all of the appropriate paperwork to get it titled in any other state.
The deal does NOT include the hardtop, but does have a complete set of doors, a trunk lid, some additional exterior trim (bumpers, etc.), restorable seats.
Now I need to go talk to the widow and see where she wants to go with this.
