Members, in case it’s not clear, forum rules for commercial posts allow a mention of a Non Supporting Vendor to Help another member, which often happens in these discussions. However, what is not allowed is “promotion” of a Non Supporting Vendor. If you have had a post removed in this thread it’s because it was one of the repeated promotions for the same Non Supporting Vendor, whose initial mention was allowed. These removals were just deletions, not sanctions.

Scott, Yes prices did change up to 3 times during the year on some C2 model years. The window sticker forms also changed each year and sometimes had mi-year changes to the forms. Additionally, fonts changed drastically throughout the C1 era as did form size and layout but remained pretty constant during the C2 models. Formatting also changed throughout the C2 years.

I don't own a C2 Corvette nor am I in the market for one, but I'm just curious how difficult it is to document these cars.
Interesting that none of the posts so far have addressed the OP's first question. Anyone know the answer?

They were installed by the factory and it was illegal to remove it until the car was sold.

Yes, at the plant, the window sticker was a multi-page document. The window sticker was attached at the plant using heated mucilage glue, the car shipper was placed in the glove box and removed by the dealer once it reached the dealership. The car shipper was placed in a loose leaf "like" binder. Rather than getting up to review the window sticker with each customer the sales person opened the loose leaf to the car shipper document and reviewed the car's options and prices from that document.

Location and amount of glue was called out in the Assembly Manual.

The price on the sticker and what winds up being on the Purchase Order can be two very different things...

A favorite "add on" was the "doc prep" fee from the dealer...Document Preparation...which was what every the dealer decided it should be...

Yes but that was not added to the factory sticker. Illegal to alter it. Some dealer would make and install and "auxillary sticker" with dealer added options and show the total price including the factory window sticker price.

I'm well aware - I was in the car biz back then....purveyors of the window stickers at car shows, etc...think that was the "out the door" price - it wasn't...

Thanks for the replies. Super interesting discussion.

Was the window sticker still applied only by the factory in the 70s and 80s (C3 and C4 Corvettes)?

The ORIGINAL gas cap, cigarette lighter and ash tray are valuable items.
They are very easy for a passing juvenile delinquent to steal, as these items are not permanently attached to the car.

Rather than tempt fate, I use reproduction parts when going to a public show.

Here is an example of a C3 window sticker that was not installed at the factory.

We picked this car and 14 others at the plant and they gave us a package of window sticker to install or give to the new owners.

As the cars were prepped for deliver at the plant and were ready to drive away they didn't install the stickers.

Here is a copy of the original invoice to show the plant delivery.

BTW if you have a late September or early October '68 built '69 Riverside Gold convertible with a Saddle interior you might want to PM me, I may have some paper work on it.

Interesting. But if C3s and C4s were shipped to the dealer, they did get a window sticker from the factory prior to shipment, correct?

Yes, although there are some early production vehicles that are shipped without and the stickers are mailed to the dealer. This is still happing today, probably waiting for final EPA
fuel economy ratings or pricing.

Would wording like "Plant Delivery and GAS, Destination charge" show up on a 63 sticker. Does anyone have an original 63 and post a picture of. Should I get a sticker I would like to know, except for the options' what other wording might be on one.

The stickers above with plant delivery is a rare case. I would say 98% of all these cars where shipped to the dealer via a truck.

I made a window sticker on that site, put it in a $4 frame from Hobby Lobby, and hung it on my passenger window with an s-hook. I made sticker with the parts the car has now since I don’t know for sure all the options my car was born with.

Thanks for passing on that link.
