Default 1956 master cylinder ( chromed)

Someone chromed my 56s original brake master cylinder. I'm wondering if anyone has ever removed the chrome on a cast part with success.

You could soak it in a bowl of muriatic acid, but probably not for too long in case it starts eating away the good part.

There are several methods of removing chrome, nickel, brass, or whatever plating was put on your cast iron housing. However, none of them would restore the original rough-cast surface of the cast iron if it was ground smooth before being plated.

Compare the appearance of your plated master cylinder to one that is completely original. If yours looks smoother than the original housing, it will still be smoother after the plating is gone.

I'd just find another master cylinder.

I am thinking along those same lines. It will never look original. Guess I'll be looking for a correct one that is either good or can be rebuilt.

You will need a 54502233 casting if correctness is an issue.

Will have to be sleeved and rebuilt

Lone Star has a master cylinder. Have a question for some one with a NCRS judging guideline. Was the master cylinder cast gray or painted?

Either natural or semi gloss black. I would paint as you ll have constant maintenance wire brushing the rust off.

The one at lone star is painted black, guess I'll order, and if it is to glossy I'll repaint.
Thanks for the information / help.
