Resto mod and other definitions
After reading all of the threads about what a restomods I decided I would share my definitions of what we see in the hobby.
1. Stock, original equipment cars need no further definition.
2. Upgraded cars—To me this is a car that uses larger engines, suspension components etc. from a one up category such as a C1 is upgraded to a C2 327 engine and Muncie trans. etc. May also have aftermarket items such as sound system, etc.
3. Custom upgraded cars—Cars that use drivetrains, frames and suspensions from 2-up or more categories such as a C2 using components from a C4 or newer including seats. May also have aftermarket items such as sound system etc.
4. Restomods—Cars that use an aftermarket frames, suspension systems, transmissions, interior and modern accessories but maintain the basic body style of the car started with. I am sure that others have their own definitions but these are mine.
My 57 with 383 engine, dual master cylinder, aftermarket stereo and wheels is an "upgraded" car.

Melting Slicks
...and then there's a "Newstalgia" car..which could have 90% of a restomod but is hard to categorgize because it's different than the majority.....LOL!

what about drivers and hot rods?

Drifting
i usually refer to my 57 as a hot rod....this car spent the early part of its life as a drag car and was a NHRA record holder The car had ladder bar rear suspension with stock front raised . It spent some time as a street car and was in storage for 25 years before I purchased.
The car had 53k miles on it when I purchased it in 2009. The car has been rebuilt with the stock frame with a Fatman stage 5 front suspension with air ride, Jim Meyers rear 4 bar with coil overs, mini tubbed rear end, TKO 600 trans, ZZ383 with Edelbrock EFI, leather interior, AC, and a one off Hartz top with chopped rear bow and a glass rear window.
the body is stock except for the rear exhaust outlets removed from the rear fenders because I love the look of the 57.

How about "Downgraded"? When you sunk money and time into something to make it infinitely worse than when it was built?

Who really cares about a name. Like a famous movie quote “Names are for tombstones baby”. We can spend hours arguing about names and labels. At the end of the day no one will agree to anything becouse they didn’t come up with it and next week something new will come out. Just call it a corvette.

Hotrod, to me, often implies a lot of Bubba, such as sawzsall hole in the hood for the air cleaner, rough hammered out fenders for larger tires, wiring strewn across the engine compartment, etc.. I prefer 'RestoRod" for a modified car that is nicely done.

This looks like a good opportunity for me to introduce a title that I am currently looking to copyright. It is based on a recently fully restored/modified/updated vehicle that has been recently purchased and sees no actual street time, only garage viewing:
"Dusto-Mod"

And then there’s the not quite finished version that stays in the garage known as hanger queen.
