Any vintage car should be checked closely as it may be a fake. Especially if the seller is claiming original and expecting to be paid as if it were.
i sold a nice 1965 Impala SS with its original 327/250hp. At least I think it was, the number on the block matched. The buyer was very eager to buy it. Now I know why. He must have already had a ‘65 L79 to put in the car. I saw my car on eBay listed as a very rare, all original L79 SS. The pictures posted was not the motor I sold the car with.

Exactly, there are tons of fake HiPo 57 Bel Airs, early 60s 409 cars that outnumber 67 435s if you can believe that. There's also tons of fake 60s/70s HiPo Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, etc. Bottom line is to educate yourself and know what you are buying. If not, hire an expert as it is money well spent.
