Judges invariably look for the VR-715 base under an original Delco cap to check for the conversion...

I am not into car shows, so the SMP will do for me, and I will just keep the original Delco along with other original parts so that after I die, my daughter cal sell the car and the original parts to someone who does want to make it a show car.

That explains why instead of selling the SMP or Wells for $23 (which will accept the original cover), the various Corvette sites offer an electronic conversion for about $40-$45, for which you have to take apart your original regulator and make a lot of modifications to the internals to take the new electronics.
