Door Jam Seals 66 Coupe
My door jams have holes in them for the rubber seals that are present on my 67 Coupe. But, checking in the 66 Judging Manual I don't see any reference to them and I suppose they are not supposed to be there. They were installed when I bought the car and before I had the car painted.
My car is a very early 66 (Sept 15 65) build and I am wondering if maybe these were used in the 65 Coupe and some carried over to 66. I did buy a pair before I did the research and although they fit the hole locations, they do not slide up onto the vertical windshield channel very well and the door does not shut properly with them installed.
Can anyone who has a 65 or 66 shine some light on this oddity?
Thanks

I have a PDF copy of the '66 AIM so I can't get you a picture. But, UPC 1, F15 shows a "redrawn & redesigned" rubber strip on 2/9/66. Sorry I can't post a pic, but if you have the AIM, you'll see what I'm talking about.
EDIT: Took a picture of the page from my computer screen...not the best.

I think that door seal came in three different levels with different methods of attachment between '63-'67.. That's all I remember and that could be wrong.

They do not belong on a 66 Corvette coupe. They molded with bonding material a gutter for the water to run in. I have had serial number 2300 and I also had a 19,000 neither car had the rubber w/s, it is in 1966 only. 63, 64, 65, and 67 had the rubber.

Melting Slicks
Mine is a Dec 65 built car and it did not have them from day I first got it. My car sat for seven years (1972 to 1979) prior to my purchasing it and nobody touched it during that time. I would guess that maybe some got them and some did not.

Mine is a 9 Feb 66 car. No mud between gutter and pillars. I think it had seals from day 1 but I only have info on the car back to about 76 so not 100% sure.

Burning Brakes
My 66 is an April build car and it didn't have them. When I did the bodywork on the car there was no evidence that they were ever on the car. No filled holes or anything just bare fiberglass.

Well, I guess it can be summed up that at this point a definitive answer is unknown. I'll post something on NCRS and see what the judges say. Since the holes are there in the door jam, I guess it would look better if they were (re) installed. I'll post what comes back from NCRS.
Thanks ks for all the posts.

NCRS guys say not used on 65 or 66 coupes. 66 aim shows them according to Dan's post. I'll take a close look at my hard copy when I get home.

Never mind my previous comments. I was confused about which weatherstrip you were talking about.

Tom/66BlkBB - are your metal roof gutter contoured into the fiberglass in the door jamb with bonding agent/filler - it looks like it may be? Mine were not - the metal gutters end at the base of the pillar about 1/8 to 1/4" above fiberglass from memory. But the car received a replacement front end in the mid=70s so something could have happened with that.

Dan, I'll check tomorrow and get back with you (while I'm doing the turn signal switch installation all over again)...TCl

OK - I think Tom's are too from his picture. That makes mine kind of an oddball - so I will assume it could quite possibly have been tinkered with when the front end was replaced in the mid-70s or before.
Thanks
