Painting a 67 Marlboro maroon metalic
My project is getting close to paint and I plan on painting it the original color, Marlboro maroon metallic. In researching paint codes I found that gm color codes for 67and 66 for maroons are the same, and in Richard Newtons corvette restoration guide the paint codes for both Marlboro maroon metallic and Milano maroon are the same ,the GM code and the Dupont, Ditzler, and Rinshed-Mason paint codes are all the same for both colors. I was under the impression they were two different colors . I have a few questions for anyone out there that has painting experience. 1 are Marlboro maroon metallic and Milano maroon the same color, 2 does anyone make a match to the original color , and who might they be. Thanks in advance Jeff

Are you sure that color was originally metallic? If so, it was very small.

I have 2 Marlboro maroon 67's. Very tough color to paint correctly. Possibly the hardest. Contact Tom Ames (NCRS Paint) and he can guide you. He gave me the formula years ago and i am not sure i can find it. He is a nice guy and always willing to help. Post a pic when you're done. I LOVE the color. Regards.

Actually, the tri-coat paints like 1965-1967 Silver Pearl is the hardest color to paint of the C2 colors.

Have a friend who built what might be the nicest 56 Continental MK II in the nation. He was **** about achieving the exact color it was. He went so far as to cut out a piece of inner fender with its original, presumably less faded paint and sprayed out samples until he hit it dead on.
And this is a car where few are alive who would notice...or care.
I start with published formulas and use samples as a guide. Old paint formulas do not translate exactly into new urethane paints. You gotta work it!
