[C1] dash colors

dash colors
Hi Guys, I realize the fabric/leather/vinyl interior items like carpet, door panels and seat covers are a specific texture (pebble grain) and color red (kind of a tomato color) for just the 1958 model and 1959 interiors seem to be a darker/richer red tone.
However is the steering wheel, dash panel, center console and passenger knee bolster (all fiberglass items) the same red color for 1958-60+ models or are these 1958 items a different red (tomato) from 1959 and subsequent year models? thanks for any advice on this issue. Bruce

I would describe all of the original interior bits in my '61 as 'Tomato' red. Very attractive color with NO hint of pink that so many reds have.

Hi Guys, I see from reading some older threads that the 58 interior red is called "signet red" and 59+ vettes called "roman red". Does this mean the dash console, steering wheel and passenger knee bolster all need to be signet red in a 58? Or is just the dash, door panels, carpet and seats in signet red? Where can I find color samples of signet and roman reds? My 58 has red dash console, steering wheel and passenger knee bolster, but I don't know if it's the correct red (if needs to be signet). thanks for any advise you can give me.

Bruce, Signet red in '58 is definitely a different red than Roman red used in '59 and '60. The original Signet Red does have a touch of pink or "rose" in it whereas the Roman Red is what I would consider to be more of a pure tomato Red. If you want things to be correct and you have a '58, all things should be Signet Red. Check some of the vendors such as Al Knock Interiors to see if they offer color charts on line so that you can compare the two. There is a very clear difference. GTO may be right on his '61, but this isn't true for '58.

I looked at the charts, too. '59-'62 Roman Red is a different paint code than '58 only Signet Red,, which does indeed have a pinkish hue to it rather than the orange-tomato hue of the Roman Red. Roman Red is the same code as '63 and later Riverside Red, however. And '57 Torch Red is even more 'orange' than the '59 and later Roman and Riverside reds.

'57 was definitely more orange. I agree with '59 on up was pretty standard red regardless of what they called it. '58 has it's own identity.
