I'm debating with myself if it is acceptable to reply with a terse, sardonic and witty quip given the sheer inanity of the question. And then, after a pause I remember that this numbers and date coding business among NCRS types is serious. And I have no intention to trivialize that. Not my place, not my business. And I conclude that I ought not post this - no good can come from it, All to be accomplished is to make someone mad.
F*%k it.

I will say in all the years of NCRS judging I never herd a judge closey exam the stamped dates they just looked to see if they where there. One would think if the diode dates preceded the case date you should be good

You probably don't deserve the wise-guy answer and you do deserve a legitimate answer. Hope you get one. For me, I hate to think anyone suffers the self imposed anxiety necessary to worry about it. If you are enjoying your car, that's all that counts.

Cherophobia--- good one! You made me look it up:
Aversion to happiness, also called cherophobia or fear of happiness, is an attitude towards happiness in which individuals may deliberately avoid experiences that invoke positive emotions or happiness.
Love to learn new words. Thanks!

...and the reverse is.....Phobophobia is the fear of phobia(s) and, more specifically, of the internal sensations associated with that phobia and anxiety, which binds it closely to other anxiety disorders, especially with generalized anxiety disorders (free floating fears) and panic attacks....
I wonder what the "Shrinks" call ....the fear that an owner of a 1967 L-88 thinking it's really a fake???!!!! .....Mark

Thank You Nowhere man. Diode dates are less than 2 weeks before case date so it should be good. dplotkin's post created a need for me to visit the local university to access the cry closet. It's OK Dan. After 10 minutes in the closet and many deep breaths I'm fine now. I don't even need this alternator. I just thought I would try my hand at doing a restoration on it. I'll probably ebay it.

WOW,
I now know why it takes a decade or more to properly 'restore' a car. I have never ventured in that deep on my redneck restorations. I also understand now why these cars are not driven - any atmospheric change is your enemy (and it appears you live in Pennsylvania?). I also understand why most restorers seem to live in Southern California It gives me more respect for the person with the ultimate patience to refine the skills and then apply them to this kind of detail.
That being said, I am very happy enjoying the beauty of your 'restored' cars and even happier driving one of my old bow ties home. I can't imagine letting my cars set in a vegetative state in the garage.

There are plenty of Top Flight cars driven regularly. It’s just how much work you want to invest.

Hey Rumbler,
you've judged at about 150 Regionals, and probably 35 Nationals. Would you say that diodes are checked at 95% of those?
I believe that someone with say 40 judging points from perhaps a dozen Chapter events and some judging schools probably has never seen the diodes checked.
Would you agree?

I said they check for them I wasn’t sure they look at them closely for dates. Sorry for not being a old retired guy and going to meets for decades

Your sarcasm is noted. You might try being a little more differential and respectful of their knowledge and experience until if and when you get to that level.
