Default Virtual Sunday Cruise

It’s cloudy, cold, and the wind is howling in Ohio today. I need to go to a happy place. So here’s the deal... Imagine it’s the perfect, warm, sunny day in your neck of the woods (but if it actually is a perfect, warm, sunny day in your neck of the woods, don’t rub it in too much).

Post a picture of your Corvette, and a list of the 5 songs you want playing on the radio as you hit your favorite stretch of road.

Here goes:

Link Wray - Rumble (feeling dangerous today)
Big Bopper - Chantilly Lace (my daughter laughs when I sing it)
Buddy Holly - Oh Boy (I was raised on cool cars, and Buddy Holly)
Beach Boys - Shut Down (....my fuel injected Stingray, indeed)
Tom Petty - Runnin Down A Dream (breaks the time period, but what a great song on the road)

...Then we pull in at the marina on the river, have a burger, and watch the boats go by...

Um..I did this yesterday for real after the local car show was over. Even put the top down. It is like a time machine.

Songs:

1. Hey Nineteen by Steely Dan
2. Cant Find My Way Home by Steve Winwood (with Eric Clapton)
3. While My Guitar Gently Weeps by Harrison, Lynne, Prince, Winwood, Petty (Prince on guitar is amazing)
4. Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young
5. I’m So Afraid by Fleetwood Mac (the version on The Dance is best)

On a side note, we came within a breath of buying Donald Fagen’s house in Woodstock last year. It sits up in the Byrdcliffe area on a beautiful lot with a dammed stream swimming hole. The wife brought me back to reality when she said I would have to sell a Corvette. We passed.

A rare shot of Mr. and Mrs. Factoid at the show.

Ahhhh Woods...........Sitting in the restroom stall doing my Monday morning C1&C2 research minding my own business..... Huh.... no real driving since my C2 put in hibernation pre-Tday... Vitrual drive.... I'll bite, I really need this. Then..... BLAMO! In A Gadda Da Vida.... right there in the middle of "business" I'm transported to a Head shop on the Atlantic City Board walk 1969 surrounded by UV hanging beads, Hendrix UV posters, blacklights, pipe paraphernalia, strange smells and..... In a gadda da vida baby, don't you know that I love you....In a gadda da vida baby don't you know that I'll always be true... Then the drum solo... I turned into a wax statue as I listened to that drum solo for the next 50 minutes in that shop.... ok, maybe not quite that long, but the FIRST time you hear that drum solo you're thinking, is this ever gonna end.... how will they ever play this on the radio (they don't).

Thanks Woods for that semi-psychedelic flashback to 1969. It was so vivid I think someone snuck into my office and lit some incense.

Oh won't you come with me
And take my hand
Oh won't you come with me
And walk this land
Pleeeeeeze take my haaaaand

Da Da Dada da da de de de da.....

Ok, ya'll can get back to discussing Pertronix, verts vs coupes, and to pipe or not to pipe.

Thx Woods and Gobomon..... whew

Only one tune in my car, 18436572!

When I rewired the car years ago I never bothered installing the radio fuse.

Ya, that is one of my staples. I always have In A Gadda Da Vida ready to play.
I actually saw Iron Butterfly play it in 1968.
Did you know that it was actually supposed to be called In The Garden of Eden. But the first time they played it they were so loaded that it came out
IN A GADDA DA VIDA instead. The rest is history.
I'm glad you got a kick out of it.

LOL.... somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind I think I heard the Garden of Eden bit of history. But if you'd have asked me this morning I'd have said they were trying to play off the Beatles Indian influence period. Indians from India, not native Americans.

Anyway... I'm fully recovered now this morning after my Twilight Zone moment and back to making money. Cheers

Read up about the bass guitarist sometime - sort of a warped genius with some mystery about him to boot:

The road is actually Highway 35 or Skyline Drive west of SF Bay. Everybody's favorite road!

I was born ( late 50s)...raised...and still living in San Mateo County... I use to drink ( underage) at The Red Pump ( Now the Mountain House) in the Mid 70s ...

I AVOID Skyline as a general rule!!!!...Seemingly Waaaaaaaay Too MANY wantabe Cafe Racers pushing their collective POOR driving skills around the countless hairpin turns....and not to forget the CLUELESS bicyclists peddling 10 miles an hour taking up 1/2 the road on turns that NO Driver can see around ....Darwin's Theory at it's Zenith!!!....Mark
