Location of Painted Rings on Driveshaft
Confused on location of painted circles on driveshaft. In the Quanta 1965 Corvette Detailing Kit it shows the rings near the front of the driveshaft. In a post I found searching this forum it showed the rings about 8 inches from the rear of the driveshaft.
Which end did the stripes appear originally?
Thanks - Hunter

I believe Quanta is trying to sell specialized paints...........I have never seen these color rings around any Corvette driveshaft. Now my own 67 car had a dab of yellow paint at the rear axle end of the driveshaft to show alignment with the rear axle pinion shaft (which also had a dab yellow paint.
Thats about all I can say on this subject. Maybe others will help.

The Quanta info. is wrong. In 1965, they didn't use rings of color. They used daubs or slashes or whatever you want to call them that were parallel to the driveshaft. Along with the light green daub in the front, there was a dark green one at the rear of the driveshaft (can't be seen in this pic.) that was to be lined up with the blue stripe on the differential yolk for balance purposes.

One Corvette book on suspension shows the markings on driveshafts for various part numbers! I will see if I can tell you what book that is from my collection!

Just another Corvette guy
The shaft in my '65 had a stripe (cream or possibly yellow) and a green dot.

My 66 drive shaft had two rings, I believe yellow and green up near the front of the drive shaft.

For what its worth.....here is a shot of my drive shaft on our '65 SB 327/300....restored back in 1990 to NCRS specs at the time....not sure if since then details have changed or been improved. It has six NCRS Top Flights including a national. Just sharing.....

OK guys, here you go. Refurbishing the drivetrain is one of my Corona projects, so these picture are of two days ago after I put the driveshaft in a wash. Stripes are original. The paint is exceedingly sloppy (so no perfectly round paint jobs). My build is 13 Dec 66, 4 speed car.
Hope this helps

A second pic with tape measure for reference.

I also had a swath of undercoating obscure a portion of the stripes, and a crude arrow pointing forward on it in the same green. Sloppy work all round
