With the ever increasing popularity of Resto-Mods growing in numbers each year and the decreasing hard to find original engines decreasing each year.
Having a stick shift will become a novelty to own once the current millennials start purchasing C1 & C2 Corvettes. The millennials will change everything to their likings, and it won't be a stick shift anymore. Granted they bother to get a driver's license in the 1st place. But that topic will be in a new thread.

As time goes on theres gonna be so many "restomods" the stock like ones will really be a rarity.
Remember when a TBI or TPI conversion was the big deal? LS1 is already long in the tooth. I don tsee millenials wanting anything to do with anything older than 80s/90s era anyways

Back "in the day", a Corvette owner would be laughed at if his Vette were an automatic.
But, in answer to the question, if a C1 or C2 were an automatic, with the original engine, it probably never revved beyond 4K RPMS, so it's probably not beat. Although, there aren't too many original engines out there. So the answer is 'maybe'.
I like the 4 speed, like the C2 I had in the late sixties, so I bought a 4-speed BB.
Even though I don't push my 427 4-speed, it's the "real thing", and I like that.
BTW, I've done over a hundred fifty runs with my 2006 at the 1/4 mile strip [best time 12.1 seconds, 118 MPH], and my C2 BB doesn't come close to that, but it's still the "real thing".

Here's HOW to RED LINE REV....&....SHIFT!!!.....my 1991 Ferrari Testarossa in White/Tan....seen at 2:10 of the video & 2:24.... REVVED to 7,200 RPMS & Lighting FAST 2-3 upshift....notice the front-end LIFT under the torque of the "modified" Flat-12....
The Dark Gray Porsche Screaming By at 2:45 of the video was being Paddle Shifted at 8,000 RPMS...
That Porsche was highly Modified & was the Quickest Sports Car of the bunch!!!......Mark

I'm early 60s....have these Sports Cars with "Heavy Clutches".....1991 Ferrari Testarossa...1973 Mustang Mach 1 ( Highly Optioned by the dealership a "1" of "1" example)...a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera.....if I can walk & turn the key....I'm GONNA SHIFT!!! ....Mark

I just posted this in the other thread where you are questioning this.
They are harder to sell simply because MOST C1 and C2 buyers want a manual. Sellers simply have to wait to find a buyer that WANTS an auto. I don't think there are many people out there that don't have a strong opinion either way as in not caring if it is auto or manual. I think there are cases of buyers that have to sell the idea of buying one of these cars to their wife MAY have to compromise with the auto trans to get the wife's OK.
The price guides I look at show a 10% deduct for manual trans. I would use this in valuing like condition/equipped cars. Remember this when YOU decide to sell it. In the future an auto MAY become more desirable (due to millennials buyers) and if so you will likely win in the $s department. OTOH, people that absolutely won't buy an auto trans are not going to give your car a 2nd look so what difference does it make to you?

I’d buy an automatic; no big deal. Of course, that’s assuming one of my other cars was a stick. Not sure if it was my only toy car.
My first split window was an automatic. It was loaded with options. I remember being told it wouldn’t sell very well because of the automatic. Lol, people were fighting each other for it when I put it For Sale.
I find the car’s original color to be way more important than the transmission.

Man, I LOVE a Muncie.....but the final gear doesn't work for me this day and age.
I don't care for notchy late model overdrive manual transmissions....or the tedious install or hydraulic clutches. They don't have the hands on thrill from days of old to me.
Soo..and auto overdrive is the best solution for me.
Preferably a 200-4R with a 3:50 ish rear gear.
The cost has nothing to do with my choice either....even though the cost of overdrive stick trans. seems pretty ridiculous for what you get to me.

Obviously I am in the "silent minority" when it comes to automatics. I have owned eight corvettes and five have been automatics. I had a Panama Yellow '58 with a four speed and a '57 project that also had it's original three speed that I sold before completed, so I never had the chance to drive it. I also had a '65 with a four speed that I kept for about two months before I traded it for a '65 with automatic from the Frank Beard collection (yes ZZTop). My automatic cars include my avatar car, a '56 had it's original PG transmission, a one owner, medium blue metallic with silver interior '75 convertible with white top, a one owner '74 convertible, red with silver interior and white top. The '64 I bought a year ago from the second owner of 45 years is also an automatic and although it has been Satin Silver since 1976, it is an original Silver blue with navy interior, PS, PB. All of my cars, with the exception of the '65 with stick were original engines.
Here's my point, I have tried to buy my cars very carefully with future resale being half of the equation. I value originality, condition, documentation, ownership history and price as the other half. It has been my experience that automatic cars seem to fit into my formula better than most manual cars out there. I have had people lined up three deep to buy my cars when I let them go, so I think there are many more "neutral attitudes" about automatics out there than your survey data may indicate.
To the guy or guy's who say you must be a 'girly man" if you drive an automatic, I think you may be struggling with a self-image or confidence issue. I don't let my car or it's shifter define who I am. In fact I am currently chasing a one owner '67 coupe with an automatic, and you guessed it....its YELLOW. C'mon automatic owners out there, stand up and be heard!!

Recently bought a C2 with powerglide and a base 250hp to help “sell” the purchase to the Misses. I’m traditionally a stick guy but the car is starting to grow on me.

Since this is in the C1-C2 section.... It is a unfair and a loaded question for those of us that have/had the very first Generation, 53-54. Automatic transmissions were our only choice... And, it came with a Blue Flame inline 6 cylinder....
So my question to all of you, I would never own guys..... Want to rethink owning if you were offered a 53-54? Just saying.....

That is exactly what i Have in my '37 Ford pickup, with the old L79 motor out of my '61 Corvette. Zippy around town, decent RPM on the freeway at 75 MPH. The short legroom in those old trucks would make having a clutch, a real pain, also. I get the occasional person ragging on me for having a Chev motor in there, but nobody ever said anything negative about it having an automatic.
