How far do you travel from home?
I just read Ganshert's post about breaking down on a road trip. How far do you take your C1 C2 on a road trip?

This past summer I did over 8K miles in a month from AZ. to I’ll and back to AZ. in my 65 and then AZ. to CA., OR., WA., ID., UT. and back to AZ. In my 57. However, usually I am no more than 200 miles round trip from home.

Most is 500 miles round trip and many 200 with no problems. And then there’s the 10, 20 or less mile with road repair to get going or a flatbed home. You never know for sure. Most of the on road breakdowns were due to crappy repro parts ( fuel pump twice!).
Ones I fixed on the side of the road were a stuck carb float, crapped out coil (Pertronix) and fused points (got on it a bit too much on an entrance ramp ..lol) I had an extra set of points and an old coil with me as parts I carry. The carb I took the air horn off and fixed.
This is over a 20 year ownership. I could tell you about all the fun and enjoyment I’ve had with the car but that would take far too long to write about. Dave

Usually fewer than 50 miles, but....
I drove my '60 from SC to CA when I moved west. I've driven it to/from Colorado. I've done a couple of 400 mile round trips to Yosemite. And next month I'll do a 200 mile round trip to an NCRS event.
So, while I don't take it on long trips often, I keep it maintained well enough that it's always ready to go.

1965 'Vert, so far the longest I've gone is about 40 mile away from home. 80 mile round trip. The day's of taking a long C-6 Z06 trip's are long gone. Miss the reliability, but more enjoy the COOL! Hope to make Lake George this summer. Sully

I drive my 60 most every day, I have driven it from GA to NY and back on several occasions, never broke down, however on one trip the tach acted crazy and it turned out that the fan belt had broken the cords and was slipping, drove to a NAPA store in the next town and got a new belt and went on without incident
Got a wet azz a couple of times, it isn't the driest car I've owned, but all and all I enjoy driving it bias-ply tires and all.

The longest distance I have taken the'65 is from Knoxville to Bowling Green for an NCRS event. I'm sure she would be fine further, but my 6'4" body was folded up in such a way that I was ready to call it quits at that distance (about 4 hours...250 miles).

I'd driven my '61 3-1/2 hours one way before at 70-75 mph turnpike speeds - no issues...and yes, when it rains in steamy Florida you get a personal waterfall under the convertible header bar, your gauges fog up to the point of being unreadable and you're driving through a dollar bill sized clear area on the windshield because that's all the funky defrosters can handle...
Never broke down completely but I did limp home one dark night with a silver dollar sized hole in the side of the distributor cap and one screw missing from the rotor... The car stumbled once in a while but keep rolling forward -- for 25 miles..

I generally hang close to home but I did take a 200 mile round trip to see a friend and get this photo.

My longest was the '17 Hot Rod Power Tour from Maryland to Kansas City. After the tour I went to Georgia and returned up the east coast to our other home in Bethany Delaware, total miles about 4250. I'll go anywhere! Dennis

Thanks for the reminder Dennis! Last year after the tour we did not go home but to Disney for a week. Then back to Maryland. I guess that trip totaled over 4000 miles.

We have no limitation on distance, only limits are time and $$. We have travelled to all lower 48 states, Wash DC and all the Canadian provinces since 2003. Our longest trip was 7,100 miles (3 weeks) when we went to Labrador, Canada. Second longest was to Oregon coast, northern CA. and it was 6,000 miles. I keep my Vette ready to go anywhere and know when it may not be able to go. Our driving season is nearly here for us in the Midwest. Just waiting to get some more of the salt off the roads and finish our preventative maintenance (next week) for the driving season.
Safe driving to all,
Steve Stone (original owner, triple black '63 convertible, 570,000 miles)
