Back in the 1960's and early 1970's, Boron Trifluoride (BF3) was used in the reaction to make mixed alkyl fluid (MAF) when mixing TEL and TML organic leads. Some oil companies preferred the full spectrum of these organic leads versus just using TEL. Mobil was one and Chevron was another.....and there were likely a few more.

We supplied TEF (TEL + lead scavengers) as well as MAF (mixed alkyls + lead scavengers) as needed to the various oil companies for their gasoline. There were probably a total of about 8-12 different blends in all. I have no idea if one was really better than the other, but the MAF ones certainly contained Boron in the mix.

Zinc added to my chicken soups helps get rid of my "cold" a lot faster. I don't think my Corvette needs it to get better.

The last time I had even thought about Boron was when I drove thru/past the “town” of that name on my way to Vegas!

I bought a huge carton of Boraxo Hand Soap (the 20-mule-team-powdered stuff they used to have at gas stations) about 15 years ago, and still have a bunch of it. Used it this week to clean grease off my hands. Still works great! Go by Boron every year on my way to Panamint Valley....they have a neat museum there. Affordable housing, too, for CA! lol.........

Should I put powdered Borax in my crankcase to make it more slippery for moving parts? Just curious.

I thought that was Bon Ami cleanser.....but then again, odds are that Bon Ami contains Boron!!! And Mike, you should do whatever you did back in 1957. It's worked so far!!

You’re probably right - I may have confused the two!
