Most pamper cars do not have that mess. But it was something I checked when I replaced the windshield wiper hose and grommets. So after cleaning, did that solve the problem. Have you giving it the water test.

Body is on a dolly, have not replaced any weatherstripping yet, so have not done any testing. But what I did sure did not do any harm!

Cleaned out the drain hole on the driver's side yesterday. I had to remove disconnect and remove the outside exhaust pipe to get to the drain hole. Here's what I found. it looks like a full sheet of Ultra Fine sand paper. To get it out I had to work for over 2 hours using a metal coat hanger. Got it out my pulling and tearing it. I had the car painted back in 1996 not sure if it was from that or not.

Another place to check for gunk is those small pockets just outside and down from where the front of the trailing arms enter the frame. I was shocked at the amount of crud I blew out of those on the 63..

Probably most of the water leaks you see today on old, worn out C2's have nothing to do with what was seen in the plant when these cars were new. Nothing to say that the water test nozzles weren't adjusted for maximum forgiveness to the design of the car, either.

In case some of you don't know it. Plant repairmen (the better ones) had secret ways of making cars rejected in the in-line inspection process pass. At least long enough to get them out the door.

A good, smart, repairman was worth more than any two supervisors or engineers that designed the car to start with.
