U-Haul trailers work well. Here is a pic of my EBay 61 purchase on the way back from Montreal to Las Vegas, About 2800 miles, no issues.
On I-40 rest stop west of Flagstaff. Almost home!
I put it on to protect from road salt but in hindsight, the plastic was a poor idea. It de-installed itself somewhere around Watertown NY....
Love your Car/Wheels!!!!!!! Sorry off Post!! I have learned that covering can cause more damage than Not Covering..........(Snow Machines to Magnetawan/Burks Falls)
I do leave a bit of slack in both the U-Haul trailer chains - they are backup safety devices IMO....
Never had a car slip sideways on one of those trailers but I usually travel fairly nice roads. I did get stuck once (truck AND trailer with the 63 on it) in a sandy lot behind a Dunkin Donuts once. It took some pretty violent actions to get "unstuck", rocking the truck like mad and whipping the steering wheel around; even so the car stayed firmly in place.
HOWEVER - one of the tricks I mentioned is to pull the car onto the trailer all the way to the forward stops and set the parking brake. Then get the front wheel ratchet straps installed and barely snug. Then RELEASE the parking brake on the car (and ensure its out of gear) and crank a good healthy amount on the ratchet straps (you'll see the car pulled forward another couple of inches) - this nails the car completely to the front stops. Then RESET the parking brake. Otherwise, you'll usually find the car has some slop between the wheels and the front trailer stops after some miles and you'll feel it bumping a bit as you drive along...
Here is my normal rear attaching:
Chain appears double because it is longer than needed. Seems to prevent side creep.
Another one in Richmond after a successful trip. Lots of pictures taken, thumbs up, horn toots, delays getting gas, but fun.
If you tow any C1 or C2 Corvette you're an instant celebrity, if you tow a split window you're also a traffic hazard. I've had people come up on my rear at 85mph, jam on the brakes to match my speed, roll their window down and try to talk about the car at interstate speeds...all while freight-training traffic behind them.... I've had picture takers nearly drift into the trailer too. I stay in the far right lane, do the speed limit and just try to stay out of trouble - with mixed results...
Frankie's comments above is ABSOLUTELY, TOTALLY, 100% spot on!
In my lower pictures in post #7, that is an example of what can happen when someone gets too close. The guy tapped the right rear corner of the trailer and caused everything to start swerving. And as can be seen, I sorta kinda barely saved it.

People love patina...no way that thing is not a show-stopper...
Tom - yeah I look at those pics of your "save" of that towed car every time you post it and wonder how you managed it...
Some deft driving for sure...
I'm sure there was an underwear change involved afterwards...

Just like someone said above, only use the flatbed or the U-haul trailer. Surely they are the best, and the safest trailers for moving your beloved car. I even worked for a transportation company, and a lot of customers were asking us if we use the flatbed, as they wanted to transport their cars only on a flatbed trailer. I understand them, in my opinion it is the safest one, just as someone said, even if some idiot crashes into the trailer, the car might stay intact. I remember back when living in Dublin, i wanted to move my audi tt, so i called for expresstowing.ie, i don't remember what kind of trailer was that, maybe some sort of flatbed, but it was so tall, there was no way my car could have got damaged.

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
