Default this-guy-still-driving-his-unrestored-1957-corvette

Some may cheer, some may hate, but he loves it like it is and that's all that counts. I'd want to fix it up, just a little but I know that there is no stopping once you start. Then you don't have a car for years, and when you do, you don't drive it. Want to know how I know?

Pretty cool. Good for him! I had to burst out laughing at the end when they showed the vise grips, though.

Yeah, the vice grips are priceless, as is the fellow's individualism and sheer enjoyment of his old Vette.

I have to say that I always wanted a Corvette and I wanted to mod it to make it fast and loud and have everyone look at the car when you pulled up at a show but I found out like everyone else that there is always someone faster with a better paint job and all that stuff costs a lot of money and it all breaks and that costs even more money and at some point that takes the joy out of owning and driving the car so on that level I totally get it...BTDT. Good for him.

Gotta appreciate a guy who is just enjoying his Vette on his own terms. Not a slave to fashion certainly.............".the next guy can do what he wants" is the right attitude IMO

I can relate!!! My goal was a mechanically new car; frame, drive train, steering and suspension ect. Good body bad paint, bad chrome and old interior in driver condition. "BUT",project creep and peer pressure has pushed the car(and me) too total nut and bolt all new fresh paint re-chromed new interior, new windshield, new "EVERY" project. Tons of $ and two more years of my life with out getting to drive it!!!

I have seen that car but haven't met the owner. I live in the same town he mentions as well. I believe it was at the Moroso / club corvette of CT vette show yesterday.

I love stories like this. He has a long history with the car and is happy with it as is. I have an old 60's Chevy C10 that I consider a nearly rust-free survivor. When people see it I'm often asked if I'm going to restore it (I have a restoration shop) and I always say "no way". Without exception, everyone who asks is happy to hear me say I am not changing a thing.

He and I would get along like two peas in a pod.
His philosophy is exactly parallel to mine.
DRIVE IT, enjoy it!

Pulling the hood release cable--------------obviously the T-handle is missing (or the threads inside the T-handle are stripped out-----------many years ago, I put a Helicoil in my handle).

That's awesome.

I'm a little concerned about the water pump, though.

I drive my 57 in the spring and late fall more than in the summer.
Even an occasional winter drive is in order on a nice day.
It gets more thumbs up the colder it is.

That was a special option in 57 one year only on the vise grips
