Default Dual Rate LED Flasher

Every since I installed a third tail light, LED bulbs and a sequencer, I have been looking for an electronic flasher that was adjustable. I wanted to slow down the tail lights and still have the front lights flash at the normal rate. I was told by “all the usual suspects” that nothing like that existed. About a year ago I was talking to another forum member (3rd Red 62) about my problem. He said “well we are both Engineers lets see if we can design an inexpensive solution. I have to confess that I know almost nothing about electronics, so the quest began. We live on opposite coasts so we talked on the phone 2 or 3 times a month. Third Red did all the work while I supplied moral support.

He came up with an adjustable design that allows front lights to flash at one rate while the rear lights can flash at another rate. Material cost was under $25 and a lot of soldering. We know that an experienced circuit designer could do something that used solid state components and make it smaller and fancier, but our goal was to make an inexpensive solution to the problem. I will try to post a video.

Enlighten me as to why you wanted the taillights to flash slower than the front parking lights? When I bought my led taillights they came with a flasher and they all flash the same. Don't understand why you would want rears to flash slower?

Don't know why you would want a different "rate" in the front. I've always used this sequencer (the universal one), and it is adjustable. https://webelectricproducts.com/

The “Usual Suspects” are wrong – there is a variable rate (50-70 flashes per minute) flasher with tone or click sound. Front lights will flash one time per rear sequence.

I extended flasher wiring inside glove box. Placed flasher inside “Tic-Tac” box and all is well.

It’s a replacement flasher module for a “Pantera”. Not cheap and can be found on EBAY.

The flashers that I tried all had a rate around 60 to 70 pulses per minute. With 3 rear lights the sequencer fired all 3 lights at almost the same time. Now the rear lights flash at 42 pulses per minute and front at normal 60. IMHO the rear lights have more definition and give a better signal as to which way I'm going to turn.

George that's a neat unit, wish I had known about it beforehand. You are flashing at about 51 pulses per minute. I wanted to get closer to what the Mustangs do at around 40-42 p/m. I didn't care about the front turn signals since they are a single bulb.

Took me awhile to figure out how to get this video to work. Again it would not have happened without (3rd Red 62) the computer Guru and help from Wile E.

That’s amazing! The rate in the rear lights is perfect! You definitely accomplished your mission. Congratulations!
