Default 58-62 Corvette Big Tank model ?

Back in the day did anyone evemr modify the big tank by lowering it down further in the chassis (if there is room) to accommodate installing a convertible top.
according to my research here is what I found 1961-1962 Corvette

24 Gallon Fuel Tank (488)
  • Special fiber glass fuel tank that allowed for greater fuel mileage by reducing weight.
  • Replaced standard tank.
  • Available only with the removable hardtop (due to spacing limitations created because of the increased storage space required for the convertible soft top.)
  • The Reason I’m asking is a seller is offering a Corvette for sale claiming it’s a big tank one of very few produced (65) in that model year and the car is shown with a convertible top up in the photo’s legit seller I’m waiting for an answer from the seller ( also they have a repro window label showing the option ) I realize that could be an error or done on purpose by previous owner
  • the car is four hours from me so with this Covid -19 going on I’m not going to inspect just yet. Thanks so much for your help .

If there was space available to allow packaging the LPO1625/RPO488 24-gallon fuel tank and still accommodate the folded soft top, they'd have done it that way; that's why the car was only available with a hardtop. Any car with a 24-gallon fuel tank AND a folded soft top has been "messed with", and is not original.
