Default Intake date code?

A 18 6. Is for Jan 18 of ‘66 ?

So, way too early for a car assembled Sept 16, ‘66.

What kind of intake?

Some are dated on the bottom, in which case they can't be seen when inspecting.

You are correct A 18 6 = 1/18/66 That will be too early for a 9/16/66 application.
The aluminum intakes have the dates on the bottom side.
This is a cast iron intake. The dates are easily visible on the top side.
