my windshield has two very tiny chips in it. i have been trying to buff them out and cannot seem to get them out they are not very deep and i can run my fingernail over them and can
hardly feel them. i have lived with these chips for about 4 or 5 years. but when i drive my car they really bother me as i am staring right at them as they are about eye level.
my question is should i file a claim with my insurance company to have them replace my windshield?? i assume i will have to pay a deductible but will they replace the windshield
without raising my premiums? i have had the same insurance company which is american modern for about 20 years and have never filed a claim, just want to make sure my
rates dont go up if i file a claim for a new windshield? or what if they say they will only fill in the chips instead of replacing the windshield? i dont feel that filling in the chips is
acceptable and would really rather just replace the windshield. any thoughts on this are appreciated. has anyone replaced the windshield? is it a big hassle or is it pretty simple?
I strongly suggest you have the stone nicks repaired. Check with SuperGlass.com
I had the old original WS on my 64 "reconditioned" by a private vendor. He did a great job filling about 30 nicks with resin, and polishing out wiper arc scratches.
The scratches were deep, so I have faint distortion, but it beats hell out of the alternative. The nick repairs are completely undetectable. These guys have gotten really good at this.
Best thing is my original dated tinted glass is preserved, along with the original factory installation.
well that sounds good but my windshield is no the original windshield. i had it replaced when i repainted the car about 10 years ago. i would not mind them repairing the chips if they could
buff them out and i could not see them any more? i am afraid they only can fill them and i will still see them? in that case i would rather have windshield replaced. thanks
I had a claim with NCM (American Modern) last year. It wasn’t a windshield but my rates did not go up. I have a friend who had the same experience with them.
Insurance claims for windshields do not raise your rates. Glass is covered under the comprehensive insurance section of your policy. You will be subject to whatever deductible you selected when you chose your coverages.
Check with your insurance company about paying a deductible. In Florida there is no deductible for windshield repair or replacement if there is a break or crack in your line of sight. Jerry
