So what do you guys think this car is worth?
The car is a '67 roadster originally a 390 hp car, although the car now has a '71 corvette 454 in it now, car is frame off restored, frame was dipped and repainted, new stainless fuel and brake lines, rebuilt rear, trans, and motor, new top, interior, gauges redone, everything works, only non original part on the engine is one exhaust manifold, all new chrome and stainless, sidepipes. power steering and brakes, new redlines, new wiring harness the car is basically all new or redone what would this car demand in todays market?
Thanks,
Tom :auto: :hurray: :lolg: :grouphug:
I had to throw in some new smily's I didn't know we had them.

I have no idea, but it sounds like a 35K investment for the seller if the thing was done right.
I'm not into pricing on midyears yet, maybe when the Z is paid off. :lolg:

As crazy as it may seem I think your PRICE IS TOO LOW locally I have seen that caliber of car going between 40 to 48 for a Niceley retored (not just repainted P,O,S, with non oringinal motor. And prices are higher depending on what type of doc are with it and the color.
Tom after all this time do you have A NICE ONE ON THE LINE

I'm sorry, that was a 67 he is looking at. We all know they are the most expensive of all the Sting Rays.
I stated 35K was the investment of the seller, not the value of the car. Add his time and labor to this amount and then put a price on it.

If it was a correct 427 block with an incorrect casting date I would agree with 45k. However since it is a 454 -- 35K tops.

Good lawd' that seems a little harsh. I sho' can't see 10K difference between a wrong 454 and a wrong 427.......wrong is wrong. Since a 390 horse engine isn't particularly expensive to duplicate, I'd say whatever the car's worth with a correctly dated restamped 427, less 7500 or so. Personally, I can't see over upper 30's myself, and at that I'd have to be sure of little or no previous damage, but I usually tend to be low with my guesses, even on my own stuff.

"does anyone have any links for ANY bigblock midyear for $35K?"
No, but if someone did, it would have a 454 or small block installed.
As strange as it sounds, a non orig., correct size block really helps.
(when its time to sell)
I would have a real problem paying anywhere near 45k for a mid year with a 454. Or any mid year now that I think about it?
The owner who installed the 454 could have used a 427 for close to the same
$$$? It would have helped now that its time to sell. But if you don't mind, its a good bargaining chip. :boxing
Keep us posted!
BTW, what's he asking?

John,
"If it was a correct 427 block with an incorrect casting date I would agree with 45k. However since it is a 454 -- 35K tops."
Your saying the displacement of the engine makes a $10,000 difference in price? Both engines have a incorrect casting date in your statement. Does a 454 look that much different than the 427? What would it be worth if it was a faked 427 with all the correct dates? Not a flame, just asking and trying to learn.
I've never seen a frame-off restored 67 BB for 35K. Period.

$40K sounds like top dollar. Just stick a 427/390 HP decal on the air cleaner and you have it.

To me, and I ain't the one laying out any cash here, the value of the car rests more in in how the overall car looks, runs and drives than the numbers on the engine.
I'd think $40-45k would be a good ballpark.

Certainly did not interpret as a flame - thanks.
"Your saying the displacement of the engine makes a $10,000 difference in price?"
No, the Block Casting Numbers make the difference.
"Both engines have a incorrect casting date in your statement."
Well, you are correct they will both have an incorrect casting date in this scenario. A 427 block that was used in 67 could be either a casting number of 3904351 or a 3916321 even at a stretch an early one could have a 942 block. One of these blocks with a casting date outside the build date of the car would have more value that the 71 454 currently in the car.
"Does a 454 look that much different than the 427?"
Somewhat -- There are not that many differences.
"What would it be worth if it was a faked 427 with all the correct dates?"
A whole lot more !!!!!!

"Since a 390 horse engine isn't particularly expensive to duplicate"
I agree -- the correct 390 hp block isnt that hard to find. If you are going to go through all the work of a complete frame off, it does not make sense to put in a 454.
Kid - I just think the 454 really kills the price. As you and I both know the value of a car is really in the eyes of the potential buyer or owner. Maybe it is the absolute right color combination and optioned with exactly what the buyer is looking for. Maybe Tom has been looking for this exact car for a long time and feels the asking price is what he is going to have to pay for what he really wants.
Tom McCabe -- It sounds like a beautiful car. Heck, you only live once -- if you really like the car, who cares what it costs -- within reason. I am sure there are folks that feel I paid too much for mine at the time. I certainly appreciated their opinion -- especially since I asked them -- ultimately it came down to my decision.
good luck

Re: So what do you guys think this car is worth? (JL66REDCPE)
One other way to look at this scenario is (after all it's cold as hell outside and I'm bored to death) if it's a 71 model 454, it's likely a 512 block, which would be desireable to anybody doing a 69, 70 or 71 Corvette, or 70 or 71 Chevelle and probably some other less popular stuff too. Since all these cars have the same casting numbers and the crankshaft and pistons (wristpin height) is the only difference between the 427 and 454's, with these casting numbers, certainly the block is desireable to a wide pool of restorers, even with it's late casting date. One thing that's always amuzed me a little is that it's considered okay to bore a correct 427 60 over, but somebody throws a 4" crank in one turning it into a 454 and somehow it kills the originality.
Back to the market for the used blocks, the two bolt and four bolt blocks are cast exactly the same and the differences are made with the machining process. It's an easy thing to convert a 2 bolt block to correct 4 bolt configuration with a used set of caps and bolts, drilling for the outer bolts, align boring, drilling and tapping for the big external cooler lines above the oil filter and chamfering the bores in the area of the intake valves in each cyl.
