Holley throttle shaft bushings

Hey Kid;
Many years ago I worked at a Motorcraft [Ford] jobber. They had a part # for them and we sold quite a few. That would work if you had the installation kit. The best way to go if you you don't is the Snap-on kit. It's not cheap but I've used it, it easy and it works very well. There is another manufacturer of about the same kit. I saw a booth at a swap meet recently. If you could find something like that you'd probably save a couple of bucks. Just about every 35 year old carb should have the bushings replaced to operate the way it did when new.

Try Chicago Corvette. As I understand it, they bought a lot of old Holley stock some years ago. My experience in dealing with them is that they are very knowledgeable about the Holley line and they have a lot of parts. I have, however, noticed that in the last 6 months or so, they have begun to run out of the old items. But worth a try anyway.

A forum member and machinist, Tom Buddie, has aftermarket metal throttle shaft bushings and can install them properly for you. I'm talking about modifying a worn baseplate to accept hard bushings to reduce the shaft side clearance.
I don't try to do this myself. If the shaft play is excessive in a customer's Holley, I pay to have the baseplate bushed or I'll buy a new baseplate from Chicago Corvette. Just replacing the teflon seal strips doesn't reduce the shaft side play. New Holley baseplate are not cheap, but they are available for some of the Corvette 4-barrels.
I've given up on trying to deal directly with Holley for parts. I believe they've used the Federal Government and American Racing Equipment as business models for their customer relations. In other words, they are as uncooperative as possible when you attempt to give them your money.

are you referring to hard bushings to repair worn base plates or the teflon ones that come standard in some holley carb baseplates. the teflon ones come in genuine holley rebuild kits :chevy

The kit I'm speaking of has reamer and a driver for installing brass bushings as well as a bunch of bushings. Put the reamer in a drill, run it thu the shaft holes in the plate, tap the bushings in with the driver. 5 minutes, couldn't be easier.
