Anyone use Redline MTL manual tranny oil?
While I've got the 67 on jack stands I may as well change the tranny and rear oil. I've used Redline MTL (= Manual Tranny Lube) in 1990s cars, but not in an old Vette. It makes the shifting just bit smoother in the cars I've used it in (Taurus SHO, RX7), and it should make the 4-speed live a longer, healthier life. I can't think of why Redline would hurt a Muncie, but I don't want to take any chances either, so I'd like to hear from anyone who has used it --- or who hasn't used it but has a strong opinion anyhow!

Run it in a Richmond 6 speed in a 62. Year and a half and no problems. Almost sure we run it in a road course Camaro with a Muncie. Sorry son did the last trans swap and not 100% sure what he filled it with but pretty sure.

I have it in a Richmond 5 Speed. No problems. It will be a little louder than the dyno oil cause it is thinner. Since the Richmond has 22 degree tooth angle you fo hear a little whine but I would not say it is objectionanle.
Shifts great when cold...no noticeable difference in shift effort with the trans warm or cold. Nice and eady in all cases.

The lubricant spec for the old T-10s and Muncies is Mil-Spec 2105, which is equivalent to 80W-90 GL-5. MTL is a 70W-75 formulated for manual transmissions that originallly specified ATF.
If you want to use a Redline synthetic for your transmission the proper Redline product would be their 75W-90NS, which is a GL-5 without the positraction friction modifier.

I'm running Redline MTL in my M22 '71 455 Judge. It really made a difference in the smoothness and quickness of the shifting, but the leakage problems of the M22 are worse with the thinner oil.

I put MTL in my freshly rebuilt M21 before I installed it in the car. After driving it for awhile, I noticed a small leak, guessing from the input shaft seal. I took out the MTL and put in the regular recommended stuff. The leak went away, and I noticed no increase in shift effort.

Thanks for the info guys. :) Don't need any leaks, so I'm off to get some good ol' dino oil. This forum sure is a handy resource for even little stuff like this.
