56 BEATS A C5!
I just received the latest CORVETTE RESTORER, and on pg36 is a story about the 50th anniversary Motorama. On pg 39, below the photo of the 56 and a C5 at the strip, is a comment about the 56 BEATING the C5 in eliminations!!!!! The 56 Vettes came with a 265 V-8 (and I suppose that is what is in this one). Of course, I don't know the full details, but, nevertheless, have I missed something? Are the new Vettes not as quick as they are cracked up to be? Or was this just a fluke? What? If this 56 ACTUALLY did beat the C5------------------YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
I have known that my 56 with a SB400 was really quick, but I've never tested it against a C5. That would be interesting------------------not to mention great if I just blew it away!

DZAUTO,
Don't hold your breath on this one! A new stick 56 was lucky to get into the 15's in the 1/4. A new C5 would be difficult to hold back from 13's.

It's possible, with a little "equalization". You know, pull two plug wires on the C5 so that it now runs with 260 c.i. and eliminate 3 of the C5's 6 gears: only use 4th,5th, & 6th gears on the 1/4 mile assualt.

My 60 is 270HP 283, 4 speed, 4:11's. My 01 is stock with a 6 speed. If these 2 cars were to line up side by side - the 60 would think it was tied to a stump. This contest would be laughable

I would guess that the eliminations refer to bracket racing. That way the race is to the most consistent (without breaking out), not the fastest. :steering:

Re: 56 BEATS A C5! (Denney)
I suspected it had to be something like a bracket race (remember, I SAID I didn't have all the details). BUT STILL, you KNOW the guy with the 56 felt real good about triping the light first!
My 56, WITH 75 SERIES STREET RADIALS (translate zero traction), through the mufflers, 3.08 posi, 2.20 Muncie, has turned high 13s and a little over 100. So, with traction and gears-----------who knows!

Yup, Scotty (the '56 owner) is my NCRS Regional Director - it was a dial-in bracket race, and he cut a better light than the C5 guy :steering:

Great story anyway.... I would love to run my 56 down the 1/4, it has a 327/350 with a 4 speed and really scoot's, but I'm affraid it would'nt stop at the end

Back when this picture was taken my 57 was on its way to the high 10s
Now, however, it's much more sedate (mid-hi 14s) and my wife's 97 would have it for breakfast with plenty left over.
Bracket racing is the great equalizer! :steering:
