I watch it every year ! The cars bring more money there and during the primetime TV coverage. But, I still love seeing all the different cars. I like, Alan De Cadenet, allright, but they need to keep him away from the american made cars :D He commented tonight, that one of the Corvettes had the engine block painted to match the body of the car ! Of course, the block was good ol' Chevy Orange and the car was red. But, he thought someone painted the block to go with the body  Just more proof, that if you don't know what you are talking about. Keep your mouth shut :D

I watch the auction every year also, but Alan drives me nuts too. Last year he commented that the 387 cu in chevy small block was one of his favorite small block engines of all times. Tonight he chose to totally screw up a 67 GTO right after I tuned in. He and the co announcer were debating whether the car was unibody or not, and if so that the term "chassis out restoration" couldn't be correct. They also listed it as a 389 with 385 horsepower. The 67 GTO's were 400's and they never had a 385 horsepower rating in any year.
Next they screwed up a 55 Corvette, speculating that the car never should have been repainted. How could they make this decision without seeing it previously. The 62 fuelie that I just bought is original paint also, and it had bare glass in sections 3 feet square. I'm sure there'll be more.

The man is an IDIOT
I remember last year listening to how unknowlegable he is on the corvettes I am going to try and email him them a quote on his next slip up (remember they are live right now and the email adress to the comentary stand is on there web site) If anybody gets an email in let us know
Better to be quiet and be thought a fool then to speak and prove it

Corvette description, it's gettin' worse: 66 Corvette coupe with 427 400HP motor. (say what??? it's obviously 390) "What is the yellow trim around the wheels there Alan, I don't believe I've ever seen that". (Gold line tires) "Well I don't know." "You know these guys are such purists. I was talking with one at the XXX Concourse last year and he said he even replicates the factory's paint drips in the under hood area". "That's incredible" "Alan does this car have the original secret sheet over the gas tank?" "I really don't know, but I've heard they do have one there".

.
Yeah, I noticed that too. It was even printed on the TV screen "427 / 400 hp". I scratched my head and wondered what engine that was.

The 1966 model L36 427/390 was briefly advertised at 400 HP at the end of 1965, then reduced to 390. That car must have been an early built L36.
Also, the 1966 L72 427/425 was briefly advertised at 450 HP in early production.
The reduced HP ratings were due to public relations at GM, and no changes were made to the engines to actually reduce their output.
Hope this clears things up.

They also commented (from the spec sheet on the '66 427/390 coupe) that it even had the "original factory locking gas cap" - NOT :nonod: The black '55 didn't sell - they were talking about how good the 47-year-old original (per the spec sheet) black paint looked; I shot them a quick note pointing out that black wasn't available on 55's, but the car was gone a few minutes later.
I thought it was interesting that the base-engine (327/300) '66 convertible went during the first hour for $50K, the red '55 got $60K, and the white '54 got $80K (high sale for Friday, and "off the charts" for a '54). The white Bondurant '63 SWC (which was allegedly a Z06, but either wasn't or had the wrong master cylinder) only brought $51K.
The high-dollar exotic stuff (and many more Corvettes) roll across the block this afternoon

Guess I will watch and tape the Rolling Stones on HBO. FWIW, Mick, Keith and I are the same age and I managed to see a couple of their shows in '65 while on duty in England. They are not your father's Rolling Stones.......wait a minute.........yes they are!

Re: Live Auction On NOW!! (gq82)
Did anyone catch their comment this afternoon while Don Johnson's Barracuda was being auctioned? They commented that the Ferrari they used on Miami Vice was really just a Corvette with a Ferrari body on it until Ferrari found out about it and they loaned the show a real Ferrari. I know the man who built the bodies for the "Ferraris" used on Miami Vice. He hand laid the panels and attached them to Pontiac Fiero chassis'. He continued to make them until Ferrari sued him for patent infringement.
