Auto trans install

Just did it! TH350C (MX2) build for a 450 range HP....Unheard of for an L71. Most definitely not Factory standard OR optional for a 435HP. A good Corvette Guy could bring back to stock with no issues....Purchase, build and installation including, flywheel, starter and shifter.....
Good Luck!
Fit like a glove! BUT a lot of work, and a lot of saved parts.....
Prep work!
Shiftworks Shifter maintaining the Manual shift plate with a custom Saddle leather boot.....Auto Consoles are ridiculously priced, like everything else....

favorite tranny. I use a 700r racing transmission,
built by FTI with a Yank 3000 torq converter, with a
manuel lockup (4 th gear). I rebuilt the driveshaft, but, it did
not need to be shortened. The transmisson tunnel needed to be
cut some, for the shifter, and the crossmember was altered. I do run a
extra tranny cooler ( your choice for location). You do need to
change the pedal, no clutch. I had to string, a TV cable, but that
was not to much. I had a Doug Nash 4 speed, before, I made the
change. I am probably missing something but you get the picture.
good luck
Just checking--is that what you meant to say.?
As I recall from what I've read, the driveshaft DOES need to be shortened (I don't know how much) to use a 700R4, but does not need to be shortened with a 2004R.
If I'm wrong, I'm always happy to learn something new.

drive shaft. I did not need ,to shorten, my driveshaft but
it needed rebuilding.

cars were built, and, back when, tolerences were not as
close as it is today. Always measure, what worked for me ,may
not work for you. Measure and be sure.

The short summary is that the 700R4 is a pure bolt-in swap from Bowtie Overdrives, other than requiring a shorter drive shaft. If you don't want to shorten your stock drive shaft, you can order a custom one from Fast Shafts, or possibly use one of their pre-made lengths available online at Summit Racing.
The 2004R can use your stock driveshaft, but the location of the rear mount is not compatible with the stock C2 crossmember, so some fabrication is required. Some solutions are documented in the above thread.
If you decide that you prefer a 700R4 over the 2004R, I would suggest getting the computer-controlled version of the 700R4, which is called the 4L60E. It's basically a 700R4 with electronic shift control. Some people have trouble getting the 700R4 to shift as desired, due to the mechanical TPS on the 700R4 (Throttle Position Sensor). The electronic shift control of the 4L60E is much easier to optimize.
