Default Headlight open problem

Left headlight on my 67 will only rotate open if I twist the **** a 1/4 turn. It will then open and close one time. Right side works fine. Anyone have any suggestion on a fix.

When it does not open, is the motor running or not? If not, sounds like it may be a bad connection or contact within the motor to the armature.
If the motor is running, but the bucket doesn't move, it may be a stripped gear, very common.
I would troubleshoot it electrically first, but sounds like you need to remove the motor and do some bench testing.

The motor opens and closes the bucket fine after I make a 1/4 turn on the ****. I woudn't think the motor is the problem? The initial twist on the **** seams to be tight, is there a stop adjustment to be made when the bucket closes?

So your talking about the manual operating wheel on the left (Driver's) side motor? If so, I would remove the unit and degrease and clean. Then regrease (NOT LITHIUM) the unit.

My 67 left side motor would do the same thing. When it occurred I would turn the manual wheel about 2-3 full turns, which would allow it to operate for a number of cycles. then it would repeat.....I ended up removing and pulling the case to clean and re grease. I used axle grease...

I would make my next step to remove the motor and see if the headlight bucket is binding in the all the way down "park" position.
These motors do not have alot of grunt. If the head light goes all the way up and all the way back down after giving it a little help (turning the manual ****), I would start here.

Could easily be the motor or something binding . And there is no adjustment except for the mechanical stop The motor tries to drive until you release the switch. Someone might’ve over done that and stripped a tooth on the gear. You need to slide the motor off the shaft and try to see if there’s a binding spot in the bucket rotation somewhere.
