John,
I would say it depends on who you are currently insured with vs who is quoting the lower number. If the lower number is from NCM, I would definitely pull the trigger
To me, it’s not about the “price” of my Bette’s insurance…….its about the “quality” of the insurance company.
I always find it comical that people own a $50k to $100k classic car…..and folks are worried about saving a couple hundred dollars on protecting it.
just do your homework and deal with a reputable company…..and for God’s sake, make sure it is really “AGREED VALUE” coverage. Not “STATED VALUE”. Big difference when it comes to settling a claim.
I’ve had Hagerty for over 20 years. I’ve had a couple of minor claims and one total loss. All handled promptly and without any trouble at all. And I received my “AGREED VALUE” on the total loss, in less that 7 days.
NCM for about 6 or 7 years or more. 2 cars - R66 and the 68RS Camaro. Insured value - $40k and $25K AGREED VALUE. Premium - less than $356 / year for both. Premium has NOT increased over the years at all. Got to keep Adam on the golf course or he will find out and want to raise it.
Yes, I need to increase the coverage. Had one claim for a tow (flat bed) when the electrical system died on the 68RS.
State Farm house and DD car insurance has DOUBLED in the last 4 years. Coverage up on 21 yr old house, but Deductible also doubled. Of course the DD SUV and truck value have depreciated. My agent wanted to insure the 2 classics for the same coverage but $250 / year HIGHER.
To be fair, I shopped around a bit until I went postal from the idiots calling and State Farm had the best price overall.
YES, WE DRIVE THEM BOTH WITH THE TOP DOWN. Why else would you own one???
I agree with Vet76te about Hagerty, I've had them for 20+ years and had a couple claims and never an increase. I have a 1950 Mercury lead sled with a 50k agreed value and a 65 L76 Coupe with an agreed value of 95k. I pay less than $1000 a year in Michigan, and that includes the extra cost for free towing up to 150 miles.
