A warm hello to everyone! I've been a silent reader for quite some time and only officially signed up today.
So, a quick intro about me:
My name is Fabian, 28, coachbuilder.
I'm from Germany, and I've been dreaming for many years of owning a red/red 1965 or 1966 Corvette Coupe.
In my collection, I already have a '66 Mustang and a '55 T-Bird. I actually believe I've found my dream car—a red/red '65 that's currently listed on eBay for $69k. Tomorrow, an inspector will take a closer look at the car.
The only thing that really makes me pause (besides the 350cid engine) is that the VIN starts with 1643. As far as I know, it should start with 1943. So I'm hoping an expert can explain what's going on here :-)
Maybe someone here knows the car? It's located in Whittier, CA.
The owner bought it three months ago.
I'd like to thank you in advance and wish everyone safe travels at all times!
Call the inspector and tell him not to waste his time (or your money)
Ted
Ted beat me to it! Keep looking, it's quite likely the eBay seller is getting rid of it because they bought it not knowing the VIN was bogus, and are now trying to unload their mistake on someone else. Actually, if the inspector you hired checked the eBay listing and didn't catch the bad VIN tag, I'd be a little concerned about using them to do an inspection.
The VIN tag on that car is NOT from a Corvette, it was taken off of a 1965 Impala Sport Coupe built at GM's Southgate CA assembly plant.
1 = Chevrolet
64 = Full Size Impala
37 = Sport Coupe - 2 door
5 = 1965
C = Southgate CA
1 = GM control number
19362 = Sequential build number of the car
Early 1965 Corvettes came with round head rivets securing the VIN tags, but by February 65 (or about VIN 9000) they were using Rosset head rivets.
Welcome to the Forum, and good luck with your hunt for a red/red 65 or 66 coupe.
This is that super-rare, one-of-one Corvette made in South Gate, California, we've all heard about!
As we all know, it was ordered by The Beach Boys and used on their 1966 CD case photo. They needed the car to be a true SoCal Corvette, so it was snuck into the production of Impalas so the corporate brass wouldn't get wind of it and put a stop to the effort.

Your story is obviously fake. Everyone knows CD's didn't come out until 1979....
I do, however, have their Little Deuce Coupe album (ca. 1963) and you can clearly see this Corvette in the background.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
