I think it more of the air leak (lean), then the bump down on timing. i just back timing it off to be safe. Until I can rebuild distributor and put new vacuum canister on it

I worked Pipeline Construction and when the mechanic came in and ordered everything we called it the Pipeline overhaul. Not sure what was wrong so just order everything.

Since your mechanic installed the Dewitt radiator I'd like to suggest to also consider a direct fit Fan Shroud.

Make sure to do this. Don't assume because it runs nice it doesn't have a leaky head gasket. These old used cars tend to sit a lot and they are always subject to electrolysis. I had a be cool radiator that ate itself from the inside out and failed a head gasket. Test for voltage in your cooling system. You have a low voltage battery there going day and night.
