HO 502 and BBC side pipes and exhaust pictures
I am new to this forum and hope that I can provide some useful information.
I have posted pictures of two installs of custom BBC exhaust. One is my fabulous (sarcasm) install of Stainless Works on my 502 66 coupe and the other is an install as sent to me by Stahl.
Pictures are worth a thousand words so just take a look!

Anyway I am removing the Stainless Works exhaust and as far as I am concerned only the 3 inch pipes could be usefull to someone.
The Stahl system is 2.5 inches and to quote Jere of Stahl “2-1/2" exhaust which is probably good for a max. of 350 HP before it starts to become restrictive."
The problem in keeping the stock side covers is that it makes it very difficult to build the exhaust in a large diameter.
Of course if you are a little crazy like me the 2 1/8th primary Hookers to 4 inch side pipes might work. You just can’t run the stock covers!!! But all that chrome looks great!

I agree, with your big rear flairs, and custom wheels/tires, the Chrome Hookers would work (looks wise....as well as flowing better than any of the other options ).

Thanks for the replies.. I am trying to let some of us know what custom side pipe exhuast for BBC are like and what problems can be encoutnered
"Can you run 3" pipes under stock covers? (modified?)"
Yes.. Presently I run 3 inch side pipes under the factory covers and not had a substantial problem. The 3" side pipes are made by Stainless Works. My sidepipes have custom mufflers that are a little louder than stock because I asked for them that way.
The 3 inch side pipes I am happy with (although I will be removing them and the covers in favor of the Hooker 4 inch).
Of course.. I am sure that many of us have learned that what fits on one Corvette C2 may not fit quite the same on another! :)

You need to talk to Jim Laughlin (JCL) at Spiral Turbo Specialties. He has systems for C-2's and C-3's with spiral baffling. He sold me a set for my ZZ/502 in the 1979, and I'm installing a set on my 1967 454 HO Tripower roadster w/factory sides. The Hooker glasspack inserts, BTW, cost me 95 h.p. on the baseline dyno runs! That's when I switched to JCL. No more problems-
P.S.
Go over to the C-3 forum, too- lots of guys there into BB performance and exhaust setups..

Wow! This forum is great! Nice cars and ideas to look at everywhere. I have already purchased STS baffles, side pipes and heat shields. Jim has been great. I have new hooker procomp side pipe headers in black. The plan is to fit them to the Gen VI 540 first. I am expecting the problem around the steering box. After they have been fit I will chrome them. I don't mind that they will turn blue at the engine but I am hoping that the exposed collector won't turn blue at the sidepipe.
