Default Is '64 VIN# Stamped in the Frame?

Is the VIN# on a '64 stamped into the frame or in any other location other than the VIN plate under the glovebox?

Yup, but you ain't gonna like where it is. :D Drivers side in front of the rear kick up on the TOP side of the frame rail. You may be able to see it with a mirror IF there is enough body spacers in this location to allow access. The original color combo for my 64 is Saddle/Saddle and I haven't actually seen one yet. Thanks for the pic, I like it but I like red better. I believe it is a fairly rare combo especially if it's a fuely car. Mine is (was). Congrats also.....

Thanks, Dave! I realize my Saddle/Saddle car is a bit unusual, but since it's not a numbers match car, I think I'm going to change it to something a bit more attractive... However, I think there's something funny going on with the VIN, so I'd like to check it out - I may pop the body loose on the one side and lift it an inch just to access the number if it's in that location. About how far forward of the kick-up am I looking?

Lars:

Try taking the rear wheel off the driver side and sticking your head up in the wheel well first. Using a drop light I can read the numbers on my '64 without a mirror. You may need to clean the area a bit first.

I just checked my sons vin in the chassis. It is on the left side. Remove the rear wheel, clean the chassis where there is an indentation. I was able to see his using a bright flashlight and a dental mirror.

It's in two places - one directly above the rear shock upper attaching bracket, and further forward of the kickup where the frame goes horizontal below the rear of the door opening (the latter can't be seen with the body on).
