Re: 84 borg warner trans in 65? (Jerry 71)
I thought, 84-87 (maybe 89) came with the 4+3 manual. I understand the +3 part to be similar to the gear vendors over/underdrive. If you have both the trans and the over drive, no it will not fit, unless you cut the drive shaft and even then there maybe clearance problems with the over/under drive unit. I would be very leary of sticking a borgwarner manual made in the 80's into a midyear, just because I don't think they are very durable. If you are putting it behind a BB or a stout SB then I definitely would not.
If you are looking for a new manual trans, I would look at Richmond or Tremec. Richmond sells a 4spd and tremec claims they have a 5spd that will fit. They both make pretty stout ones from what they claim, although they both can be pricey. There are also places out there that sell refurbished muncies and T10's as well, they tend to be cheaper.
