Because maybe data is more organized and/or accessible. My guess would be to add up all the REGISTERED '64s in the world (USA plus a few hundred in Europe, Asia, etc.) and add maybe 30% for the ones off the road for a reasonable ballpark number.
Ok, let's go for the longest owned: I bought my '64 in June of 1968 -- 35 years.
Mine was also made in Sept 63. Along with the normal early '64 stuff, it has a '63 exhaust panel and bezels.

Unless somebody else has done the math, that's 45 years. I've had mine since December '66, so 47 years in my case.
Seems like the '64 is the year of choice for those building a replica GS. That may in it self bring the numbers down. Mine just had its 50th. birthday on October 29th. Great cars, drum brakes and all!
'64 saves labor over later years by having the correct fender gills, just cut 'em out. But AIR GS'x don't have airvents in the roof behind the doors? That might make it a toss-up, '64 vs '66 COUPES, but '64 convertibles are home free!
(I'm assuming '63s and '67s are too valuable to customize?)
