Default Distributor Rebuilding Kit C-2

Where can I buy a rebuilding kit for the distributor in my 1965 327, 300 hp? Would NAPA have these parts?

NAPA or any other autoparts store should have what you need individually. Assuming the bushings and tach drive gears are okay, you should replace the breaker plate, shim up the end play to two to seven thou and used the standard spring tension points (high spring tension points should be used on engines with redlines over 5500.)

also inspect the point wire, plastic grease seal, felt washer and advance limit bushing, and use a good quality general purpose grease in the upper bushing grease well.

Be careful and use Pan head machine screws to mount the vac. advance can. Round head screws will limit rotation of the points plate. Make sure the point plate ground is soldered well and flexible.
Things I learned the hard way.

I wouldn't be surprised if NAPA or any other quality parts store had the distributor pieces. I WOULD, however, be surprised if you can find a parts counter person that can find them!

I was at Murrays looking for high tension points and they couldn't find the part. A few days later I was looking through the aisles and saw them hanging on the rack. Oh well....

At the stores by me (with the exception of Carquest) if it isn't in the computer, there is NO chance of getting it. The problem is that the computer doesn't always go to 1965!!

Default Distributor Kit

I replaced the vacuum can on my distrbutor, NAPA 680 can, 327-300 HP. My 65 vett was bucking. After replacing it seamed to help allot. After a day or say the bucking came back. I also replaced the points and re-timed the car. Do you think maybe the distrubors needs rebuilt?

Default Don't limit that to parts stores

You will get the same treatment from your friendly GM dealer. I just got off the phone with a guy from IL. looking for a plastic speedo gear, the driven gear. He also wanted the speedo sleeve, the hold down and the bolt. All of these items are currently still avaliable from GM, their response was there computers don't go back that far.

I have all these parts on the shelf, bought them all from a GM dealer.
