I've been getting all the small things out of the way while I'm waiting on my car, so I pulled my clock out and thought I'd do a "fit check" (for lack of better words") trying to figure out how this thing goes in. Let me say first that I wasn't the one who took it out. It was already out when I bought the car. I see everything feeds thru the front, put the clips on the back, put my lens on, but When I go to put the outside clock bezel on, I can't figure out what keeps it on. I see where it has 2 protrusions every 120 degrees and also notice the little notch that lines up the lens to the back of the bezel. It all goes together, but all I have to do is bump it very lightly and the bezel will fall off. What holds that bezel firmly where it won't come out?
It's been a few years but if I remember correctly the bezel was just crimped on to the main housing. I would crimp the bezel to the housing before inserting it into the dash.
The protrusions are like rivets, the two pieces are riveted together. After these pieces are seperated there may not be enough of the protrusions left to properly crimp these together, this is the problem I had with my clock. My solution was to use a little silicon glue to help hold them together.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, but wanted to make sure there wasn't some trick I was doing.
Also, I need to refinish the bezel. I've found that it's chromed underneath the black finish. What should I do to get paint to stick to that thing. Maybe rough it up a little?
Since you bought it with the clock out and in pieces, my guess is that the previousd owner tried to fix it and did'nt know how. My suggestion, send it to:
The Clock Works www.clockwrks.com
1745 Meta Lakes Rd.
Eagle River, WI 54521
1-800-398-3040
They still NOS movements for the clocks and will install it for $69.95 It takes them about a week and when you get it back its a thing of functioning beauty. They have the tools to re-crimp the case together correctly.
If you just want to repaint the bezel back to black, go to your local auto paint & body shop supply store and get a can of SEM brand trim black. Clean off the remaining black with acetone or lacquer thinner, mask off the front egde, and fog a few thin coats on it.

Thanks for the info. Actually the clock works great. The previous owner bought a new clock insert for the assembly and tested it, and works fine. He just didn't re-assemble.
