" Uses none of the original parts " ........... All I want to know is if the original steering column will fit properly with the remainder of the components...... I am aware additional custom columns are available. If you change the column what do you do with the cars identity tag ??

The VIN tag can legally be relocated but it depends on the state you are in. California can be a real pain but others not so much. There are companies that can reproduce a tag.

Do you provide a certified letter stating it is legal for your company to direct customers to remove and replace identification numbers ? I don't think your doing C-1 owners a favor by selling parts that interrupt legal identification of a motor vehicle. Test Tubes were all the rage replacing cat converters years back. I believe the government put the lid on their products and advertising. State assigned VIN plates are assigned when tampering occurs . This affects value as bad as a salvage title. Many of us would never consider a car altered in this fashion.
The Car Craft article is someone getting their five minutes of fame behind a camera. What it says is " authorized by the owner " so they are not responsible. Finding a shop that is fully insured willing to take the chance listing it on their work order.......... is like very unlikely.

Its still quite a simple question. Which bonded / insured company is going to include a invoice stating they take responsibility for moving the identification tag ? When the car is towed and confiscated the legal bill clock will be in their corner as reimbursement becomes the question. No excuse that it may be legal in your state . Owners take vacations and may be stranded thousands of miles away. If this modification is so legal why isn't explosive performance stepping to the plate ? Police units all have computers with internet and can get solid information very quickly. I do not want to see an owner with many hours of labor and cash lose their vehicle over false information what can and can't be altered on a cars true identity.

You will note the date of the original post is dated in 2011 we are a dealer for the manufacture who responded to your comments very nicely along with others. With some 7 plus years later and countless installs later and many more units sold NOT ONE CAR HAS BEEN IMPOUNDED BY POLICE because the VIN was moved and relocated. We believe your concerns have been answered and you have made your point. In the end it’s the owner’s responsibility to make the decision whether they want a car they can drive and have fun with or a car that drives and turns like a truck. As far as we are concerned your comments have been noted, answered and this is the end of the conversation.
Get the firm that assembles the parts to modify so the original column can be used. Take responsibility or include a state & federal form allowing this as legal. Someone should have thought this through and done it right. Liability is a huge factor as these vehicles are no longer cheap used cars. For those that have done this, agree all you desire. This is why auction companies have owners sign responsibility forms. They found out in million dollar court decisions.
Have a great day !

YES, you have answered my question. YOUR firm WILL NOT take responsibility for selling parts requiring VIN removal. Soft soap all you want , .. it is highly ILLEGAL. Does anyone on the forum want to pay going value for a car that comes with a detached identification plate ????
