Default Want to Trade 58 hardtop for 59-60

I have a 60 vette I am restoring. It came with a 58 hardtop. I started to restore the hardtop and had it apart before I realized it was a 58 top. I would like to either trade tops, or if someone has a 59-60 top apart, trade the stainless pieces to swap from a 58 to 59-60.

Thanks,

Don

Hi Don, i have a 57 vette with a 59-60 top & I`am interested in what you have. contack me at 316-264-8690,Ks. Thanks, Roy. I have a original dated Jan. 59`top & it has changes different from 56-58, like the [3] hold down attachment brackets also the lower frame but hole pattern for LWR. trim appears same as 56-8. Vertical trim is different along with the two piece LWR. trim which started in 59`, so, 59 `& 60 `are the same, 56`-58`same except for drip rail changed in early 58, Jan. & on. We know 56` header was different. Thanks, Roy

Default Hardtop

Does your top have a small Y shaped stainless junction piece between the rear window and the side window down at the bottom ? If it does it is 57-59 if it dosn't and it just has two long mouldings that start at the door and meet in the bottom center of the back window it would be 1960,,So that is the 57-59 top has 3 pieces of stainless at the bottom,,Where as the 1960 only has 2 really long pieces that meet in the back.

Thanks 60 Fleetside. I do have the 3 pieces of SS molding on my 59. Glad to know I have the correct top for it.
This Forum and the guys and gals on it is the best!

Not to confuse things but I am of the understanding that all 56 to 58 tops are the same except for the narrow header on very early 56 tops and the 59 and 60 tops are identical without the Y molding on the side at the bottom and then 61 and 62's are the same except for headliners of course on all of the different years.

After 25 years proud ownership of a 1960 Corvette with two Hardtops and a softtop I am totally confused. Always thought to have the right tops, despite the fact, that I had noticed earlier, that the inner chrome mouldings on one had holes for setscrews, the other did not. On that the chrome was just clipped on. Is that something else, may be a very valuable prototype of the St.Louis eastershift 1961.

So forgetting about 59 tops, I was aware that the basic difference between a 58 and 60 top is the outside moulding on the outside rear window and quarter window. But I thought that was the only difference, i.e. the frames and other pieces were the same. Specifically the differences are:

Vertical pieces out outside edges of the rear window are different. 58 had one piece lower rear window outer trim, the 60 has three piece, two sides and a center connector piece. Also, the 58 has the "Y" piece to tie the rear winder vertical pieces to the lower trim.

So are you saying that if I trade these trim pieces, the 58 can not be modified to be a 60 top?

Also, it was my understanding that the tops where actually changed in the 59 model year, so that there are early 59 tops that are like the 58 and later 59 tops that are like the 60.

However, I only know what I read. No first hand knowledge.

The 61/62 top will not fit "correctly" on a 56 to 60 because of the hump in the deck lid.

I thought also the header/pad varied from different years.
