Default 57 FI Heads?

What would a pair of fresh 3731539 heads be worth. I had a guy call yesterday wanting to sell a a pair. They're dated Jan 1957 if that matters.

Those "539" head castings weren't exclusive to the 283/283hp engine. They were also installed by GM on every Chevy passenger car equipped with a 220 hp, 4-barrel 283. There were only about ten bazillion made that year.

I'd watch out for old heads that have been decked too much. After several machine shops remove .020"+ each time they surface them, you don't have enough head thickness left for the intake to fit right.

they are worth $500 if they are in good shape. i would be a player on them if you are not. those heads are not as rare as the 997 heads but they work alot better. not only were they used on 57 fi corvettes with 283 hp and passenger cars with the power pack but hundreds were sold over the counter to drag racers. those were the best heads of the time and everyone wanted them.

I've had a pair for sale for $500 for about a year with no takers, and these are rebuilt with new valves and include the finned valve covers.
