It seems like all of the bids are lower than the ones at the Scottsdale auction.
I wonder if the # of bidders is lower. It seemed like there were a lot of empty seats when it started.

Yep, the Vette was a real aluminum head L89 (at least as real as any pre 1977 St. Louis car can be since there's no records). I diddn't understand why it had the cheap tires and I would have liked to see the documentation and run the numbers myself but I still thought it was a steal.
The thing that amazed me was the prices the Shelby, the hot rod and Hughes car brought. The heck with that! If I had that kind of money, I would have bought all the C2 Vettes & then called Saleen and have them build me a new S7
1.5 mill for a 53 Buick? I don't care who owned it, it's still junk!
STW!

P.S. Is it just me or are the announcers stupid? They claimed (4) engines available for the 67 427, I'm showing 13! Even if you divide them up by cubic inch, they were still wrong. That would make TWO, the 327 & the 427. OH! How about the comment that the 66 Charger with the hemi was undervalued due to the body style and that if it would have been a "67 with the new body style" it would have brought more, DUH!

1. 390 hp L36
2. 400 hp L68
3. 435 hp L71 (same engine with alum heads = L89)
4. 430 hp L88
?? that would be four.

Upon further review, I guess his statement was more of a symantics issue than a blantent error. I have to agree with the RPO designations but I (being numbers obsessed) was thinking of engine codes/combinations i.e. IL, IM, IQ, IR, IT, IU, JA, JC, JD, JE, JF, JG & JH. Then to make it even more confusing we've got 3 different block numbers for the 67 427.
Geez, no wonder these things are so easy to clone.
I still can't forgive them for the 67 Charger statement though, thats was REALLY out there. I sat through the entire AZ auction and could not believe how many times they gave inaccurate information (I hope no one was relying on it to bid). You'd think the Speed Channel would really try to find a combination of announcers who knew their stuff.

I seen that, scary to think growing up we had a '68 Shelby GT500 convertible (Black/wgold stripes and 4spd) in the garage. We kept it less than a year (Dad said every Chevy and Mopar Big Block would tear this car a new one and since it was so heavy it handled like crap.) He wishes he still had the car, for investment purposes only.
