Advice: Best Anti Theft for a C3
Because of another members misfortune.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1052622
It makes me want to keep my C3's a little safer...What would be the best anti theft method for a C3.
Lars borrowed my anti theft to jumpstart a Q-Jet while tuning.

Best one was made by Sears, their security battery...disabled, impossible to start. Too bad too many dimwits in this world didn't know how to push buttons on the remote, to disable and enable...the battery is discontinued.

Here's what I do/did/recommend...
1. Install a battery cut off on the battery
2. Yank the coil wire when not in use
3. Clamp the rubber fuel line or install a shut off valve
4. Keep the fuel near empty so they can't get too far
5. Keep her spotless inside an out so the cops can dust for prints
6. Place a few security company stickers around your house and garage(better yet install a system)
7. Place a note over the speedo that says, "Smile thief, your on camera!"
8. Leave a few .45ACP spent cartridges around the Vette
9. Insure it "agreed insurance" for an amount that will guarantee you can buy a better Vette if it's stolen

LowJack?
And don't forget that 007 security device that blows up the car in the event of a break in......
Can a low jack device be installed? If so why aren't they here offering discounts to forum members?...is there some in the know here that can help us?
all these kill switches are great but what if they hook it up and go....they could have done this to anyone and they didn't even know it and their sitting around and saying why didn't i hook up a kill switch? and It wouldn't of even mattered.
Lowjack can track.

If the thief can get past my 2 100lb German Sheppards my H&K USP .40 is quite accurate at close range..... If they get past the dogs & can figure out how to start her, My Hooker Headers/Sidepipes will wake me up & my flat top AR-15 H-bar is pretty accurate up to around 800yds.... If they get beyond that.... My car is by far the loudest car around... I'll get in my quiet V8 firebird & hunt them down!!!!

Lojack is about $600 with no more monthly maintenance/subscription fees. Well worth the investment if you're planning to keep your car for awhile.
I have a locking shift **** on my auto shifter. It uses one of those cylindrical keys. No way someone is going to put the car in neutral and push/pull it away. They're going to have to drag it.

Jacobs Electonics used to sell an electronic ignition module that would only run for a minute or so unless you pushed a hidden button. I don't know if they sell these anymore or not, but it's a nice idea. Gives you a minute or so to get in your wife's car and hunt them down.

A well secured garage and lojack? Kill switches and the like will protect vs. the casual thief and maybe the semi-pro. A real pro will just flatbed your car and be gone.

I tend to agree; deterrents only lead to a false sense of security.
-A lock will keep honest people out, it just slows a thief down
You may be successful in keeping the teenage joy rider or apprentice thief from stealing your car but if someone really wants to steal your car they will have done their homework on Corvettes...and will not only steal it but will have a means for it to dissappear quickly, in part or whole.

The idea is to have many devices and have them seen. A theif isn't going to bother when he sees that thingy that locks the peddles, a club, and you have an alarm. He'll just move on to the easier score. All the hidden stuff may not help. Once he committs to the stealing it, he will find a way.

1. We've only got one shepherd (Rommel) but we do have some vicious cats to make up for the lack of a second dog
2. Mine is a Kimber .45, the wifes is a Ruger .45
3. The wife has the flat top Comp HBAR, mine is a Delta HBAR
4. Stock exhaust but loud enough
5. No Firebird but we've got his and hers Trans Am's
UMMMMM...What does your dad look like?

I have to agree with many others. Lojack and keep it locked in a garage. Alarms will not stop the pros who would most likely hook it and go.
By the way, if someone is able to read your vin number on the later C3's and all newer cars thay can get a key for it. At least with the really new cars that have those smart keys it might stop theft in this manner.

You could alway have a floor pod cemented in your garage and use a chain. Very tough to steal that way. Or you could go a little more modern with the fake roll of dynamite on the dash that starts counting down once the car is started. Worked real well for a buddy of mine that left his Porsche at the airport.
