Default I'm getting a new windshield

On the way back to work from lunch yesterday, I was 4 or 5 carlengths behind a duallie pickup truck when all of a sudden a rock or something popped my windshield. The place in the windshield is about the size of a dime but directly in the line of vision. These incidents are considered road hazards, but luckily I have zero deductible on my comprehensive insurance and it isn't going to cost me anything to have it replaced. It just seems a pity after 25 years but these things happen. I'm having the install done next Friday and the business installing the windshield has much experience with Corvettes, antiques, and classics. I work with the business owner's father and feel confident about his work. Anyway, just wanted to share my story. Thanks for listening.

Had that happen to my daily driver a few years ago. It's scary to see the windshield crack in front of you...

At least no damage was done to the car itself - be thankful for that. I was lucky - a cement truck dropped a chunk onto my car, and I had the fortune of working for a lawfirm at the time...

A company came out the next day, fully paid by the truck's owner.

Hope it all goes without a hitch.

Be thankful you didn't have it come through. A few years ago there was an article in Airman Magazine about a lady that was driving along and a piece of debris hit her windshield and hit her in the side of the head.. she surrivived but it was a long journey.

You're right and thanks. If it weren't for the windshield in front of me, I might be somewhere without a face.

you never really realize how lucky you can be until after something happens.. I learned that last year with my accident.. if I wasnt wearing my seat belt, i would have been dead, without a doubt.

Be sure when you talk to the glass company, tell them you want the original version of the windshield.
If you don't ask for it, they will put in a newer version that has different tinting, and the certification stamp is wrong...

Don't ask me how I know this.....

I was on the freeway and a huge (marble size) ball-bearing bounced up and cracked the window right at eye level. I thought it was a bullet. Hit hard. All I could think of is the dipsheets who ride motorcycles on the freeway without helmets/face protection (note: red bandanas are not face protection). The impact of that ball bearing would've dropped a motorcyclist like a sack of potatoes.

About 20 years ago I had a piece of 2 x 1 thrown up on a freeway.
Hit the screen right in front of me. Very scary seeing it flying up at me, everything went into slowmo. The glass was cactus but it saved my head. Oh, and it was in a company Atoyot so nothing out of my pocket.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

I thought about this too. The girl in the office assured me that the glass would be the same as the original. I plan again to make sure when I leave the car with them.

Good idea. No telling what those frame channels are going to look like after 25 years.

There are some glass companies that come to you and replace the windshield at your house/garage. I wonder if they (the insurance and the glass company) let you remove the windshield to work on the frame/birdcage and then install new glass after a few weeks (or however long it takes to repair/paint the frame).... has anybody done this before ??
