Default Sad... saw my old car....

well close to 2 months ago i sold my 77' w/ a 454. my wife and i were driving down the street and we saw it in a used car lot, so we pulled in and started looking at it. it was in sad shape... for 4 years i drove that car every day. it was always washed and waxed, but now it was sad looking, so dirty.. in fact it has been sitting out in the rain with the the windows cracked about 1" and it has rained 4" in the past week so every thing was soaked on the inside and the side pipes had started to rust, which i thought was odd. the other damage i saw was a broken center console where the A/c controls were pushed into the dash about 1", the trim around the back window was cracked, the horn cap was taped on, the trim at the bottom of the steering wheel was missing, the pass. side side pipe was dented where they had cut a curb to tight. the rims were scratched from curbs, but most distubing was the note stating "AS IS 454 (CRACKED BLOCK)" aughhhh.. what have the done to my baby.... they also only wanted 6500 for it which is half of what i paid for it and is half of what i sold it for 7 weeks ago. the dealer said they were willing to take offers if i was interested. hummm.. i could buy it back and have my vette and a profit also..... thats an idea?

Sad...sounds like some beat the $hrt out of it. Probably cost a heck of a lot more than you think to get back to your standards. LOOK AWAY

If it were up to me, I would offer them $5000 and buy it back.

I agree what kind of a lunatic could destroy a nice Vette in 2 months, I assume you met the head case that bought it ?

WOW.... that is a shocker. Most people buy Vettes and try to make them better than the previous owner did. But this case....what a surprise.

I agree somewhat with one of the other posts. I would be tempted to offer $5000, take it home, and start working on it again.

It really would be hard not to after losing a gem like that and seeing it in that kind of condition.. Make 'er beautiful again!! No vette should be in that condition!!

I don't know if I could stomach rebuilding the same car twice.

Similar experience with a Jeep Wrangler I drove for 11 years. Lots of chrome and new paint then decided to sell her...I had too many toys at the time.

At first I never saw her but she changed hands again locally and the new owner drove the same route I did everyday...he let it go downhill fast. I finally stopped one day and asked about buying it back. Surprise! - she had been in a pretty good wreck and had been reparied with a hack job. I'm glad I stopped becasue there is no way I want her back now.

It's hard to imagine some freak spending 13 grand on a beautiful classic Corvette, just to demolish it inside of 2 months. I think I would have to weigh the cost of putting the car back together again as to my decision to buy it back though.

Umm, I don't think so. The $6,500.+ profit will be gone in two seconds attempting to undo the damage you listed. That list looks like way more than $6,500. worth of repairs to me. Ever consider how much more is now wrong with the car that you DIDN'T observe? I don't know why you sold that Vette in the first place, but there must have been a reason. You made your money back, but now you're considering buying it back and in the end you're going to loose all the money you made in the sale, PLUS more just trying to get it back to where it was when you sold it. Nothing personal, but that sounds really dumb. Step back, start thinking with your head, not your heart, and take the $13K you made two months ago and use it for whatever it was intended for. I know you bonded with the car, but remember, it was only a '77, NOT an L88. I know it sucks seeing what you did, but move forward.
