Default OT: Anybody else have this problem with the forum?

Ok here's my problem. Every time I view the forum my browser's homepage gets changed to www.hotsearchbar.com. This is annoying because I visit this forum multiple times daily. I have narrowed the problem down to this website. I have scanned my computer with ad-aware, and also mcafee virus scan, but the problem still exist. I am very computer literate but I cannot find the problem. The only thing that I could think of would be if one of the forums advertisers have done this. Maybe a mod would know? Is this only happening to me? Thanks

Can't help, but maybe some of the geeks in OT can. Did you try posting over there? You'll get a lot more action with computer questions there.

You have spyware installed on your computer. This forum doesn't change home pages, but spyware does. Download, install and run Adaware and Spybot removal programs, and you should be able to remove most stuff. There are some really malevolent spyware programs out there that may require stronger programs.

Thanks for trying to help but as I said I've already run ad-aware. I know what spyware is, I am very computer literate. The problem goes away until i come back to this website.

I would also suggest using spysweeper.

Here's the link to their website. http://www.webroot.com/downloads/?WR...73b12c5256b069

They have a 30 day free trial. I liked it so much I purchased two years for $40. I think it's a very good value.

If you download something, it "pops up" and asks if you want to download it. You must click to accept or decline.

Same if you add something to your favorites. It also does the same thing if you ( or Spyware ) tries to re set your home page.

Microsoft has a new beta version of a spyware checker. Download it. It works very good also. I have been on the forum for around 5 years now and have never been redirected to any other site. I am like the others and believe you may have a spyware program on your computer.

As others have suggested, i don't think it's this website. I visit this site 5-10 times daily and have never had this happen.

Search download.com for a program called "hijackthis". It will find and remove the program for you.

This is what I was going to suggest. I have had some very annoying spyware/virus problems and what I do is Google it - ie, I describe the problem I am having best I can and almost always you will find others that are having the same problem as you, and discussion is typically on a very technical forum with some good solutions.

in your case google "hotsearchbar blah blah"

Helloooo
Nope. no problems with me using this website either. From either my computer at home, or my computer at work. Only on my lunch break or after hours of course.

It's called a "parasite" and you can get rid of it...
