Default ? on spare tire for a 73

My 73 came factory equiped with the aluminum cast rims, which has been authenticated via the GM VIN owners package.

I've only had the car a year, and finally got around to checking the spare. It's on a steel ralleye rim.

So my question is...what spare tire rim would be stock on a 73?

Wasn't there only like 4 production 73's that got out the door with the aluminum ralley's? (black book isn't handy but I know the production was extremely low). The stock 73 spare is on a regular steel ralley rim.

Yes, reportedly only 4 cars--may have been none. Dealers placed their orders only to have them "kicked back".

1973-1977 cars had full size spare tire and wheel. In 1973 only those cars equipped with the optional alum. wheel had a matching alum. wheel for the spare. Later year cars ( except 78-82 )fitted with the alum. wheel had a steel wheel for the spare. All 78 to 82 models were equipped with a space save tire manuf. by Goodyear, 195/80D15, called a Polyspare.

I got rid of that crappy polyspare and put one of my original alluminum rims in as a spare.

Gee I got shorted, my GM package did not include any options for my VIN. I thought GM lost those years ago?

What about 72? Did they just not bother with a full one?

Default Spare Wheel

My 1977 Late came with the Aluminum wheels, but the spare wheel is steel. Since I am the fourth owner, guess it got swapped?

Spike: All 77's had the full size steel wheel as a spare. No Alum. wheel in 77 on the spare---regardless of the type of wheels that come on the car.

81Vette: 72's had a full size spare tire and wheel.
