best way to sell wrecked 77
My son recently wrecked our 77. I am buying the car for salvage because I think?? I can make some money. Work done in the last 12 months includes top-end with intake / cam and so forth, new true dual exhaust with cats and headers, complete front end and front brakes, rebuilt posi and millions of minor items.
The car is a 3 owner 66K DRK Blue on Blue and the damage was done to the driver's rear quarter. Frame may be slightly tweeked, one trailing arm damaged and would require new fiberglass from from post to post.
Should I sell the car as a whole or piece at a time? How much is it worth?
Suggestions greatly appreciate!

If you were to get another car and transfer over your new bits would that be an option. Then part out the leftovers. Seems a shame to throw away all the time/effort and money you have tied up in the car.

Why not keep her and repair the damage? Straightening potential frame damage on a rear quarter ought to be pretty straightforward; replacement suspension parts are available; fiberglass repairs/replacement shouldn't be too much of a chore. If you decide to part out the car you should consider how you will get rid of the eventual bare carcass.

how bad can it be?? i believe i have a new gm 1/4 panel i would sell at a reasonable price, even have a complete chassis from a 75. would hate to see it parted if you have done that much to it.

EASY MIKE: Looking through my books it appears the parts would run close to $3500.00 plus paint and labor. I would need quarter, pilar, enternal braces, rear deck, complete trailing arm and everything for the rear bumper.
Tough decision becuase I spent almost $8,000.00 incluing new T/A's and starter two days before the crash.
Thanks to all for the feedback!

82, I can do the mechanical but I'm not into backyard paint and body. My paint skills would not meet my standards for a car I would cruise! And my son can't draw a stick man
The son can handle the parting out for the most part and the new 69 will help ease my the pain some

Sounds fixable, but if you don't want to fix it wrecked cars are always worth more in pieces than together (except documented rare special type cars)-hence the salvage yard.
If I wasn't going to fix it, I would advertise the engine first and sell it running to somebody who can hear it. Then I would disassemble it and sell it part by part on Ebay. Related items should be listed at the same time if sombody wants to save on shipping (ex: seats, dash pad, console, door panels all at the same time but different auctions). Together it might bring $2000. Apart it should bring more-$4-5k maybe?

I agree that you'd do better parting it out but Red does have a good point. the last car that I parted out only had the bent frame and a few panels left. I rented a small dupster and used a reciprocating saw to chop the last few pieces. The restwent away for a couple of hundred bucks.

You'll do better financially parting it out but there is a lot of effort in tearing the car down.
When I did a parts car when I figured in my time.... I think I made around $2/hr after recouping the cost of the car. Mind you I did keep the frame, rear diff...... so thats probably another $1500 that I could have made on it.... so make that and even $10/hr(canadian).
It was a way to get my frame cheap but a lot of effort went into tearing it down and trying to sell part(which I still have many of)
